WOJ Live: Free Agency Show
Re: WOJ Live: Free Agency Show
I'm not sure if it's allowed, but that would be a wonderful idea.

Anyone have thoughts on any pf/sf or sg/sf flexible players available now after deng, lee, afflalo, and Dudley are gone? Tayshaun Prince may be a very cheap/good option for us right now, and we already know he's able to buy into what we are currently doing here.
Quincy Acy
Acy would be a great pickup, but with his stats and age isn't he likely to command 10-12 per for 4 years like a Solomon hill? Hasn't he also had a significant injury history?

We have to get to about 85 million to reach the minimum, according to this page.

Could we re-negotiate Pek's contract to make it a 1 year deal for 24 instead of 2 years? : ) Taylor really needs to buy that guy out next offseason.
Can't re-negotiate contracts unfortunately and buyouts do nothing to get rid of his cap hit so you might as well just keep him here until it expires and keep him as one of the three suits if we have a full roster.

SameOldDrew wrote:Right now, I don't want to sign anybody more than 1 or 2 years unless it's for a steal of a price so their contract could become easily tradeable in the future. We've already got players for the future up and down the roster and we'll need to extend some of them soon. Anybody we sign should be and very likely will be sitting on the bench.
Rubio/Tyus
LaVine/Dunn
Wiggins/Bazz
Dieng/Bjelica/Payne
Towns/Aldrich
Edit: And I want to leave us as much cap space as possible for next year. Assuming we improve, we could potentially attract a top-tier free agent next year. That's way more important than having another year of some bench player. So I'm actually only on board for 1 year deals at this point!
The cap is still gonna jump another 10+ million next year and we aren't even at the floor yet this year. If we sign up to the floor on two year deals, that will still leave us 1 full max slot next year along with a bunch of expiring deals the following summer opening up the space we need to re-sign Wiggins and Zach and not be near the tax.
To get to the floor at 85:
Sign 2 guys for the 17 left if we're at 68. I recommended Lee and Rush, but it can be any two guys.
Next off season the cap jumps to 109 or something like that and we'd be around 77 after KG's deal is done. That's 32 million in cap space which can sign any one player in the NBA or some smaller deals.
Then the following off season Pek's 12 and the 2 guys at 17 open up 29 million to sign Zach and Wiggins and keep us well under the luxury tax for when Towns signs his extension the year after.
If we get a true max guy next year that will be the end of Gorgui, Bazz and maybe Zach, but then we go forward with Wiggins, Towns, FA as our big 3 moving forward and sign around those 3.

Yeah I've thought Thomas would be a sneaky good deal since the beginning. You have me on the Acy train now too. One of them + a sg/sf type who can knock down the three and we'd be in a great spot.
As for who said acy would get Hill money, it was just me speculating. He's a quality stretch 3/small ball 4 who plays well on both ends. At 25 years old I just expected him to get similar money to hill.
Re: WOJ Live: Free Agency Show
Nice write up on our future outlook khans.
We've already talked about dieng likely commanding 15-20 mil next season. Has shabazz really played into something over 10 - 12 mil per though? I'd like to keep both, but it seems very likely we can keep Dieng while also retaining all of towns, Wiggins, and Lavine. I know it's been stated before, but what % of the cap can a player like Wiggins command for his first max?
Here's to hoping we have the next young nucleus that follows the Spurs mold. I can see Wiggins and Towns taking a 20 mil per deal for the sake of the team. They both seem to have that personality and will put winning over everything. I'm not sure about LaVine or Dieng. Shabazz I'm sure will look to cash out elsewhere and find time as a starter.

Blazers offer 20 mil per to Gasol for two years. Can they really do that After the turner deal and still keep crabbe and harkless?
