Don't get me wrong: Jordan Hill was productive last year, and productive is good.

But MIN now has 15 players signed and only 4 are wings (AW, ZL, BR, SM). That is if we can finally agree that Bazz is not a PF, or that number drops to 3.

Kinda starting to resemble the '96 Blazer and '97 Bullets when Harvey Grant got way to many minutes at SG.

Let's take it a step farther Jason. The Wolves have 7 perimeter players.

That's 7 guys for 3 positions. Belly could probably play a little SF if you had to play him there against certain matchups but not a lot. In addition the amount of experience of that group is not significant outside of Rubio and Rush. That's why I have suggested Payne could be on his way out. Signing another vet perimeter player as you have suggested in the past makes a lot of sense. There will be guys for cheap that will be worth signing that will be a massive upgrade over Payne in terms of helping you. Heck some wings we could sign might be better at PF than Payne. Lol

There's always some play in terms of how you build at NFL roster (does a guy player multiple spots within his position group? does a "specialist" do something else? 2 or 3 quarterbacks?) and MLB (6 or 7 or 8 relievers? Do you have guys who plays multiple positions? Do you have a guy like Zobrist who plays 7 positions?). But NHL (12 wings, 8 Defense, 2 goalies) and NBA (5 positions, 15 spots) seem pretty straightforward to me.

Unless they have a plan for Payne. If they are trading him for a wing, or just waiving him and signing another wing, with Belly's versatility, it makes more sense.

Yeah they do have a lot of versatile players but an injury to one of the SFs would leave them pretty thin there.

They could just cut Payne to add a more perimeter oriented player it would cost Glen less than a million bucks depending on what type of guy they got. It's just summer league but as bad as he has been there and his NBA minutes I don't know why they would keep him around if they wanted a better player. Heck I don't know why you would keep him around period he has been simply that bad.

I would prefer a trade though. PHI can't be in love with Kendall Marshall, and he was productive at one time, so maybe roll the dice with him?

Getting guys that can rebound and play C fills a big problem the Wolves had last year in that area. There also seems room for Bjelica to get minutes playing against stretch 4's that the other Wolves bigs may struggle against.

It seems there should be some sort of perimeter player the Wolves can pick up one way or another if they dump Payne but letting him go. I don't see anyone being willing to give up something to get him when they could sign him for a vet min deal to save them money IF!!!!! They even wanted him at all.

So we're a little thin at the 3, but that also happens to be where our biggest minutes and games played guy plays.

Question marks surround Garnett, Pekovic and Payne. I think it's getting safer to assume Thiboedeau isn't expecting much (anything) from at least two of them. You just don't need 8 rotation bigs taking up roster spots in today's game. So Payne is on the way out. Garnett may mentor at an elite level? And Pekovic will buy a few more suits?
