Wiggins v Greek Freak

Post by Lipoli390 »

If the Bucks were willing and you were the Wolves PBO, would you trade Wiggins straight up for the Greek Freak?

Hell no. Greek Freak is gonna look better right now because he has a whole extra year under his belt in the league, but I still think Wiggins will be the better player. Wiggins is 4 games into his sophomore campaign and you are already jumping off the bandwagon? The patience on this board appears to be at zero right now for any bad play from any of our young guys. Just like last year, maybe we wait 20 games before we abandon ship already this year. 4 out of 5 starters are pretty much brand new this year. It takes time to build continuity. I think too many people are demanding results now when we're 4 games into the second year of a rebuild. It's gonna be a long season on the board at this pace.

That is a tough one for sure. I don't think it means anyone is getting off the Wiggins bandwagon if they pick GF.

No, I'll stick with Wiggins.

Don't ask me about Parker, though...

Boy, tough call for me. The reason is that if you pick Wiggins, you are basically saying he will eventually become a Tier I scorer with efficiency, because there is really nothing else he will do better than Giannis. At the same age/experience level (i.e. last year), Giannis was the superior defender, ball handler, passer, and rebounder. Those aren't things that change dramatically from Year 2 going forward, so I think he will always be better than Wiggins in these areas.

Where Wiggins seems to have more potential is as a high volume/high efficiency scorer. He gets to the line a lot more than GF and his long-range shooting appears to have more potential, although that really hasn't been borne out yet. And it's not like GF has no offensive game - he's averaging 21 PPG this year!

So based on all the "other stuff" GF does and the fact he himself is still improving as a scorer, I'm voting for him. He can impact the game in more ways than Wiggins can.

easy call for me, greek freak is already top 20 player in the league and still have huge upside, his physical tools are just amazing, he made DeMarre Carrol look like little kido when he played vs Raptors as his drives are absolutely devastating (btw. nobody can drive this easily against Carrol, not even Lebron or KD), and on other end of a floor he absolutely killed Carmelo vs Knicks, that was not even funny to watch on top of that he shoots .582 from the field and .500 from 3pt land which will go down a bit but not much as his jumper looks great this year and he is only 3 months older than Wig

Both the Bucks and the Wolves look to have a bright future. I just have not seen the Greek Freak (GF) play enough to make a reasonable judgement. Right now Wiggins stock is down and GF is up.

I'd trade for GF based on his aggressive mentality, which is something I haven't seen in Wiggins. Both are very athletic, and are the same age, but one has shown the drive to want to take over games, while the other seems content to sit back and watch the offensive game. GF is making substantially less on his rookie deal, and clearly put in a lot of work in the off season. I just don't see the downside in the making the deal.

It's easy to vote for GA over Wig because GA is off to a great start this year and Wig is not. But I think Khans makes the most persuasive argument. It's not fair to compare a 3rd year player to a 2nd year player, because the learning curve is so steep for players at that stage. I compare both of their 19-year-old rookie stats, and easily decide to keep Wig.
