NBA Coast To Coast

Post by Papalrep »

The panel was talking about the Wolves tonight. Bragging up Flip for getting Dieng and Bazz for Trey Burke. It was on in the background so I didn't see who said this, but one of the commentators said he spoke to a long time scout, and asked-- of all the young cores in the league, whose would you want? He answered Minny.

Interesting. The scout said prior to the draft, a lot of people thought Porzingis was better than Towns. But at this point, everyone agrees, good as Porzingis has been, Towns is the better player.

As for Wiggins, the scout said, "he's not who you think he is. He is a great defender, good scorer. But no dribble, not a good handle, and not as good as Towns. He is a clear second best to Towns. This may not be news to many on this board, but I was surprised Wiggs didn't get more love.

We do have an encouraging young core, although it would be nice if they could win some more games!

I think Wiggins is sometimes overhyped by national media types because he scores a lot of points and makes some highlight dunks. It makes sense for a scout to give a more balanced perspective. One thing Wiggins has done better lately is ratcheted up his scoring efficiency. I think the faster pace of play has helped.

Well he's not a great defender yet, he's better than a good scorer, and I'll agree on the handle. One out of three isn't very good from that scout. So he needs to watch him play a little more before his opinion means much.

Huh? Saying he's a "good scorer" isn't a knock, like at all. Would you prefer he be called a "great" scorer? Not including tonight's stinker, he's 16th in the league in PPG at 20.8 on 16.5 FGA, shooting 45% from the field and 24% from three. I don't think he's earned that "great" label (yet?). Perhaps we can find a medium such as: Wiggins is great at drawing fouls. 8th in the league in FTA and fifth among perimeter players. That part of his game is what gives some of us hope.

Fair take. Towns is going to be the best player on this team. I think that is the consensus around here. He is the only player on the team that doesn't have a weakness in skills. Everyone here loves KAT.

Wiggins on the other hand is the great divider on this forum. There are those who think he is going to be a great player who happens to have a greater team mate with towns. I'm on this camp.

Then there are those who think he will be good but not great and wants to trade him the moment he had a bad stretch of games.

Either way, we have two of the best 20 year olds in the league.
