Re: 2016-2017 Free Agent
I think the issue is that we need a star to move the needle. Both Batum and Barnes are nice players, but neither does anything to change the major trajectory of this franchise. While I would love either guy on this team, I also think $15MM+ for either of these players is ridiculous.
That being said, they are both realistic options for this team.....which is certainly a factor that we can't overlook. I don't know what the correct avenue is, but I do know that bending to meet market demand most often leaves a team with an overpriced and overvalued player. What I see in today's NBA are players you WANT to pay max money, and then a ton of players we all know aren't worth it, but end up getting max money by dictations of the market. Batum and Barnes certainly fall into the latter category. We all know they more than likely never earn a $20MM per year contract....but that's what you may have to pay. I don't know....

Hicks: We have two potential stars in Wiggins and Towns. Both could put Minnesota back on the map in the next couple of years. Right now, we need to surround them with good, complete basketball players that will help them blossom. Instead, we have too many guys that don't know how to play on both ends. Desperately need a starting wing next to Wiggins.

Batum was playing hurt and his shooting suffered. He is a complete player that I'd love to have on the team.

Terrence Jones was mentioned in this thread. Houston just traded for Josh Smith (again)... which should speak volumes about the team's plans for Jones.

We should do it. We can get the most out of his potential just like.........nevermind.

I wiukd also see how cheap brandon jennings goes as a free agent. Could be a good backup pg
Re: 2016-2017 Free Agent
I'd say it's an absolute no brainer trade for Houston. They get a legit talented player for literally nothing. Maybe it doesn't work out. What do they have to lose? Chuck Hayes? I would say them acquiring Smith says something about their depth of bigs in general than saying too much about Terrance Jones I think his lack of playing time says enough there.

That's interesting. As much as I rip Jennings for being an inefficient shooting shoot first PG he can play and he takes care of the ball and would bring scoring off the bench. The question is how much will he cost and how much better is he than the small scoring Pgs that get signed to cheap deals every year in FA? I could see him staying in Detroit actually as a 6th man type.

Coming into the season, the Rockets PF was supposed to be in pretty good shape with Jones and Motejunaoieiufoadsiufoidasufs. Chuck Hayes was signed... and then waived months ago.
