Not for Martin. The Wolves would have to give up more than you might think for Beverly.

I would think we would have to give up a bit more. But I have this suspicion that the whole Huston thing is start to really blow up. I anticipate very desperate moves coming from them. I wouldn't be surprised if they try just about anything to make it work now that they are locked in to so many idiots on their roster.

Maybe. But from what we've heard, Houston really likes Beverley. Now that he's healthy, he has been one of the team's more consistent players. And he's getting more minutes as a result. Lawson has been benched. Beverley has reached between 10 - 14 points in 8 of his last 9 games. He's hit 22 three pointers during that stretch.

The big thing though... he's only making $5M per season and is signed for 3 more. That's a bargain in today's NBA.

Martin is more expensive and a stopgap option who is much much worse defensively. Plus, he's taking fewer and fewer three point attempts and more long two pointers. Houston HATES long two pointers.

Here we go.

Do this trade and cut Ty Lawson. Then find a PG in free agency or draft this summer.

Martin makes too much for most contenders to just absorb and send us a pick of any kind. I like Martin for Gibson. Martin for Courtney Lee. Martin and a second or two for Terrance Jones and KJ McDaniels (only way to get salaries to match). Martin for Grievous Vasquez (expiring backup PG) from the Bucks. Martin for Brandon Jennings' expiring deal. Everyone else pretty much doesn't have the right combination of cap room or pieces they could send back to make salaries match.

Who has a trade exception?

I'm not expecting any player good enough to be in the rotation in return for Martin. Remember, Corey Brewer probably offered similar value for less money last year and all that got the team was D-League super gunner, Troy Daniels.

I wouldn't, he has a stellar 3-8 playoff coaching record. He has the experience to take us on a deep playoff run!

I'm not familiar with these "playoffs" you talk about, Bania? Is it something Sam has done in the past that the Wolves aren't allowed to participate in :) ?

(Moral of story...in abe parenthesis format. Getting to the playoffs and going 3-8 >>>not getting to the playoffs for 11 years...especially coaching the overmatched roster he got to the playoffs with. I think everyone here would be thrilled if Sam could get us to the playoffs this season like he has in the past, even if we won less than half our games after getting there.)

I know LST, you're a fan. 3 is more than Tom Izzo, right?

Good point...Sam has 3 more playoff victories than Tom Izzo. Ergo, he's a better coach. Why didn't I think of that

(plus Izzo thinks Adreain Payne is a great player  )

Well, now that everyone knows martin is being move. Its time for him to get bench. Shorten the rotation and get tyus back on the team and give him time as the backup pg. There is no need to play martin anymore. Even if he suddenly drop 30 in 1 game, that wont change his trade value. Teams that are offering a 2nd round pick for him wont suddenly offer 2 2nd round picks just because he had a good game. Time to sit him until we find a taker.

On that note, i dont think we get much from martin. Best case scenario might be a swap of martin for jodie meeks or jennings from the pistons. Otherwise, I see teams offering players they dont want and 2nd round picks.

Jerry Zgoda tweeted some news today related to your post, world. First, Martin's MRI didn't reveal anything...just a bruise...and he's listed as questionable for tomorrow night. Secondly, Tyus will play two more games in the D League and then return to the Wolves Sunday. Apparently his team doesn't play for 8 days after Saturday, so this gives him a chance to be back in Minnesota for Christmas and practice with the team. No word on whether he is back permanently or not, or of course whether Sam plans to work him into the rotation.

The wolves also received two 2nd round picks including the Kings 2nd rounder last year which was pretty valuable. I would be thrilled to get a top 2nd rounder out of Martin.

Let's keep a couple things in mind about Martin's situation:

1. Flip never wanted to deal him. He said a couple times this offseason he saw Martin as a bench scorer for this team in the future. We don't know how much Martin bought into that even though Flip said he was agreeable to that plan.

2. You rarely ever hear about Martin as a vet leader when anyone associated with the wolves talk about vet leadership. I was thinking about this yesterday (I just saw the news he was available a few minutes ago) just how stark and obvious it was despite Martin really working hard on D taking charges or attempting to do so often from big players.

3. I wouldn't be surprised if him being made available means teams have called about him before.

My guess is the Wolves and Martin said lets see what this season brings us and at this point Lavine is really playing well and the playoffs look like a tough proposition and they probably asked Martin what he wanted to do considering they would have him take a much lesser role and being honest with him said they really didn't think they could assure him of much of a future role either. One way or another Martin probably said yeah he was ready to move on. I mean even the guys like me that like Martin to a certain extent didn't see how he was going to fit long term (or for that matter long term this season especially if the playoffs were looking less likely) so this is no surprise. After listening to the latest you betcha basketball show with Souhan and Jon K. It sounds like Milt isn't a pushover and they might get some decent table scraps (good 2nd rounder or multiple 2nd rounders) for Martin instead of just a sandwich. Lol keep your expectations low but I do think he could bring back something decent it only takes a couple teams to bid against each other and actually want him to get something more worthwhile.
