No it isn't. Barnes hasn't shown any indication that he can be a facilitator on offense like Batum already is. And beyond their handles, Batum is leaps and bounds the better passer between the two.

Yes it it!

Batum is needed in that role, whereas Barnes has Curry, and Livingston filling that role on GS. Calling him a better passer, is like me stating Barnes has better court vision. You might want to look at turnovers though, because a better ball handler and passer should likely have less.

Barnes is form Iowa. He has been up and down on his role with Warriors. I think he would welcome the chance to expand his game playing with the Wolves. I think he and Wiggins would really push each other as they progress towards there prime. He also checks all of the boxes.

Good shooter

Good defender

Comes from a winning culture

Young enough to fit with our core
He would be my top priority in the offseason.

Actually Green leads the team in assists. That guy is having a crazy year for them. My hesitation with Barnes would be how does he fair without a group of facilitators next to him. Mark Jackson would be the man to talk to about him.

When did Ricky stop being a facilitator? I thought that's what he was known for. So we could in theory roll out Ricky/Lavine/Wiggins/Barnes/Towns. I'd sign up for that. Or we could go big and roll out Ricky/Wiggins/Barnes/Towns/Pek. I think Barnes is a versatile two way guy who would fit great here.

My bad Bleed, I am surprised i left green out, part it goes to my point that Barnes is filling a role and isn't necessarily void of a certain skillset.

sjm - I agree with what you are saying. I don't think he is asked to be that guy which doesn't mean he can't be. He has the same stats as Batum had for assists at this point in his career.

Before it gets misconstrued, I don't not like Harrison Barnes. I like what he brings to the table. I don't think he's worth the max contract it'll take to try and pry him away from Golden State, though. I also see a better player on the market in Nic Batum.

I also don't think youth should be a factor in who we pursue. Barnes is 23, Batum is 27. The idea is for this player to come in and help our potential stars in Towns/Wiggins as they grow. I'm more sure of Batum doing that than I am of Barnes, who is still growing his own game theoretically.

Yes, but in three years where will Batum and Barnes be, which is the timeline I would expect for KAT, and Wig. I don't think either are worth a max or even close to it. The max is going to start around 22 for Barnes and 27 for Batum. I think something in the range of 16-18 is more likely, but even that seems crazy to me for a 3rd option.

Batum averaged 9.4 ppg just last season.

He scored less and had a lower usage rate than Robin Lopez.

I'd hope the Wolves wouldn't be shelling out $100+M for that type of 3rd option.

If you look at his past, it's pretty clear that last year was an anomaly for Batum. Career lows in practically every category going back to his rookie year.
