Barnes isn't necessarily gonna cost the max. There were rumors they were possibly gonna make a run at Durant which if that holds true they'll need every dollar they can get. If they go after him and he takes his time an early offer to Barnes that's good, but not the max could get him. I'd offer him 15.

Nm. Just saw he turned down more from GS last year. He's probably looking for a max.

I would go after him. Offer the Max.

Can someone please attempt to explain on which planet we are offering Harrison Barnes the max on? Because he certainly has not proven to be worth that much money. If im running the Twolves show I am saving my money until our young guys actually turn a corner. If Wiggins and Towns keep going as projected then we should have good talent willing to come here at lesser pay in 2 years. Let's not F this up by overpaying a guy that likely does not get us over the hump. Let's remember he plays with Curry, Thompson, Green, and a whole bunch of other talent. Let someone else take the risk of paying him a max and finding out if he's worth it. It's just not a good bet, and could turn out to be a crippling contract.

I like Barnes and he it gonna get the max. We're are you gonna find a guy that's a top level defender that you can throw on 3 positions that also knocks down 3's and is still 23 with all kinds of playoff experience?

Is he worth the max? Idk I would be concerned he isn't and I like Barnes he would be a really good fit here. If he gets the max is he also looking for a place where he is a higher offensive option? Is he a budding Allstar level player or is he a good role player? Idk spending at least 20% of your cap space on a good role player might not be a good idea. I guess what I am saying is it's gonna be a gamble for whoever signs him.

I would still rather replace Rubio for Conley, (then trade Rubio). I hate watching the end of a close game only to watch the opposing team play soft on Rubio and force the shot out of his hands.

Either way I also would not offer up max to Barnes. Maybe $18M, do it right away in FA and force GS to either match it or go after another target. This year in FA teams need to move fast due to the rise in the salary cap.

It's also easy for me to say as im not getting paid the money, but for what it's worth something is a bit off about him rejecting 16 mil per year. Klay took less than the max to stay, and he's much better than Barnes. He had a chance to stay on a perennial championship contender for the next 4 years at $16 mil per year, which i'd say was a gracious gesture by the Warriors, yet he turns it down to take a *chance* of getting more money elsewhere. Either he is very confident that he can dominate when out of the shadow of the better Warrior players, or he is just more about me than the team. I'd wager the latter.

The bolded part is what I don't understand. Nobody knows if he's just a good role player/glue guy, or if he can shine elsewhere. The thing is, he hasn't proven he is anything close to an all-star. It's a huge gamble. One we're not in the position to make.

I think Barnes turned the previous offer down due to the new salary cap.

However, for what it worth, doesn't Curry become a UFA in the summer of 2017? GS will need to manage to that ($).

I agree but I think it's possible maybe even likely that some other team does make that gamble.

As a huge Tar Heels fan, he's not worth the risk. He should stay in Golden State because he was made for that role. He's not made to be an alpha on a good team. Hell, if anything we should be scared if Wiggins begins to mirror Barnes.
