the case AGAINST Towns
OK, part of this is tongue and cheek. But since we still have a lot of time to kill before the draft - let's try this on for size:
Anthony Bennett. Age 19. 16.11 PPG. 8.14 REB. 26.71 PER. 7.62 Win Shares
K. Anthony Towns Age 19. 10.28 PPG. 6.69 REB. 28.98 PER. 8.91 Win Shares
Should we be scared?

Not any more than we should with any draft pick. AB's college performance was dominant...I had him in the conversation for first pick and wasn't at all shocked when the Cavs took him. He just hasn't panned out, and because I am a Wolves optimist, I will add a "yet".
Re: the case AGAINST Towns
The case against Towns is his lower body and whether or not he can play strong post defense against Cs. That's about it and if he can't do that his other strengths may allow you to put some interesting players next to him that may be able to guard the stronger Cs in the league. He might even be able to just play at PF if his lower body against Cs is such a problem.

- Footwork in the post concerns me the most. Has huge feet and I'm concerned he won't develop that footwork.
- Spotty offensive production.
- Leg and core strength (kid is only 19, I think he will be fine).
- Injury history of big men.
- Overaggressiveness on defense.
- Played on a college team with 6 other guys that will be drafted. How will he do on an even playing field.
- Bottom line Towns is a solid pick at 1. Has good skill and attitude. Already has a good rapport with Wiggins.

Comparing Towns to Bennett was a joke, right? Are you just trolling me?
Also, for the 30th time, Bennett dominated the Mountain West. Whoopee!

Cam, Read his first sentence: "part of this is tongue and cheek".
It looks like he elicited the reaction from you that he was aiming for!

Ha, there may have been some Cam trolling in Carlos' post!
But let's not demean the Mountain West conference. In the most recent ranking, they were ranked 9th out of 30 conferences, so they are certainly not a pushover conference. Plus AB played well in games outside the conference too. There's no question that he has not been a good NBA player and hasn't lived up to his enormous potential, but Carlos' point is still valid...there is always risk in a drafted player.

:-) Call it a "half troll". The board consensus is to pick Towns. I think the reasons "for" have been well stated. I thought another thread to offer contrarian opinions might be interesting. I'd be OK with Towns. But I'd probably be ok with Okafor or Russell too.

Monster...strong legs is something even the skinniest of guys can have. Players like Dwight Howard play excellent post D' even tho they are thin legged. The real ability is can he be Mobil enough to shift, adjust and use his length to stop the post, like you mentioned he should be able to do. Leverage and technique is key for these young guys for sure!

Hey now, the Mountain West is not a bad conference at all. They've been better than some of the majors including the Pac 12.
