I've been made GM of the Wolves, here's my plan

Post by alexftbl8181 [enjin:6648741] »

1. Draft Russell with the 1st pick

I wouldn't mind Towns, but Russell is going to be the next Harden. It also works into my second idea

2. Trade Rubio to the Kings for the 6th pick and filler.

I think this is best spot to trade Rubio. Kings might talk themselves into a Cousins-Rubio-Gay trio that could win some games. Wolves start over with Russell and free up some space as well.

3. With the 6th pick draft WCS.

Best defender in the draft. Can't score but that's ok with our wings.

4. Sign Bjelica to be the starting PF next year.

I know we have a million forwards on the team, but this guys the best one, so bring him over and let everything sort itself out.

5. Tell KG that your a bench guy playing 20 minutes, you'll be paid like one.

Nothing over 3 million for me. Take it or leave it. You can be a coach or special advisor or whatever, but we can't put too much thought into your role as a player

6. No trades to free up cap space or roster spots.

Yea Bennett, you make 7 million, but I don't care if you rot on the bench, it's only a year then your gone. I wanna let these guys walk, I don't care about the next 2 years. I know every team will have cap space by then, but I want to have even more when this core is ready.

7. Get Thibs at any cost.

Make him the highest paid coach in the league if you have to. There is just not another guy that's going to come around in the next few years that is as good as this guy. Sorry Flip. the next Pop isn't going to fall into you lap no matter how hard you believe.

So now I have a core of

Russell
Lavine
Wiggins
WCS

All under rookie deals and supplanted by enough vets like Martin, KG, and Pek, that will take enough of the pressure off these guys until they are ready. And when that time comes, you'll have the cap space to build a bench which was the downfall of the Love era.

You'll probably be bad enough to add another lottery pick next year to add even more.

Man I would make a pretty good GM

Alex - I disagree with #1-3 and agree with #4-7. The only problem is that it's tough to do #4 without violating #6, unless you mean other than what's necessary to sign Bjelica.

I'd probably still be OK with making KG the token starting PF, only for Bjelica to play the majority of minutes ultimately.

my question is, if we are are not making any signings with the cap space we don't have why would you alienate the greatest player to ever play for us? That makes the organization seem cheap for no apparent reason. Who cares what we spend on keeping KG its not going to affect our ability to sign a significant FA one way or the other.

This is true. Taylor and Garnett have already had their issues.

For Taylor to say, "We're not paying you, so I can pay more to myself"... yeah, that might not be a great move.

Rumored that Joseph Young has a promise from a team in the late first so getting him at 36 looks implausible.

He's a guy that I like, though. In the mold of a Monta Ellis or Isaiah Thomas.
