Flip's Plan Is Working Perfectly

LST - Wow makes no sense. 6M for Flip to coach the team. I can't see Hoiberg turning that down here unless he doesn't think this organization is setup to succeed. I am sure we could do better then that. I would never accuse Taylor of being cheap, but at times I think he is blindly loyal and this is the case with the Wolves. I wonder if Taylor just enjoys the game and treats it like a golf membership that makes him money. As long as his investment is increasing in value and he enjoys it he is not going to be to worried about winning. I think a lot of other owners just have more fire and competitive. Reminds me of working as a caddy at a country club as a kid. Some of the guys just enjoyed being part of it and others where there to be the top golfer in the club. I see Taylor as just happy to be there.

Bleed -- Hoiberg was never offered the head coach position with the Wolves. He wasn't even approached.

Like you, I used to think Glen simply didn't care much about winning. But I know someone who knows Glen very well. He said that Glen is very competitive and wants to win. So he's more than just "happy to be there." He just doesn't know how to run a professional basketball team.

Letting Flip be PoBO and HC is not the way. The sooner Glen understands this, then we can take steps forward.

I'm now convinced things are going to shake out like this.

It's too late to expect a coaching change this summer. Plus, I have heard that Glen is not dissatisfied with the job Flip has done as coach given the ridiculous injury situation. But given any level of normal injury activity next season, I don't expect Glen will be so tolerant. Yes, the value of his investment is going up every year, but his cash flow has to be terrible, and he is painfully aware of the revenues he is missing out by missing the playoffs. If Flip gets the team to 40 wins next year, Glen may let Flip continue to coach. But if the team is healthy and doesn't produce, I expect Glen to give Flip the "find a new coach, or else" talk as the year grinds to a halt. And if the team really starts out in the tank, I wouldn't be surprised if Glen forces a move during the season. I wanted a new coach next year, but I'm still excited about this team, and not unhappy with giving Flip one more chance...but only one more.

I get why Taylor may be giving Flip a pass on last year, but I don't expect his patience to last.

And that's yet another reason why Saunders has played this so well. (As has Hinkle in Philadelphia.)

GMs come and go. That's part of the gig. When you're with a lousy team/organization... turnover is even higher. Both men have figured out how to extend their reigns in different ways... despite being among the worst teams in the entire league.

- Saunders. Angle for the GM and coach gig. Bottom out. There's nowhere to go but up, right? That's Plan A. "Hey, look how much better the team got under Flip as coach and GM." But, it gets better. Let's say the team still sucks balls. Saunders has a genius backup plan... "Coaching and being GM is too taxing. I need to concentrate only on GM to do the best job. I'm bringing in a head coach so I can do that 100%. Even in the worst case scenario, Flip bought himself YEARS as the GM. Brilliant.

- Hinkle. Alright. Lots of teams tank. But fans aren't always happy about it and all that losing cuts into the GM's shelf life. But what if we embrace the losing and create a "strategy" around tanking. Granted, we're still doing what other really crappy teams do... WAIT AND HOPE FOR A SUPERSTAR... but we're telling you about it openly. Losing is part of my strategy. Bilking fans out of hard-earned money while we sit around waiting and hoping is genius. Eventually, they'll hit lottery gold and Hinkle will get the credit for it. And because he created this strategy around tanking... he might even be around to reap the rewards.

Sucks Hoiberg was not even approached about it. We will see if it is the right decision next year when he coaches the Bulls.

I think the hardest thing is he doesn't publicly show he is serious about this. I guess I have to accept we won't have a Cuban type person owning this team.

Not sure what to make out of all this except it seems like Malone going to the Nuggets is unlikely where the guy that fired him just got a job. Flip's plan is working brilliantly Malone will be our defensive guru!!!!! :)

D'Alessandro has to be one of the worst GM's in all of sports. The guy made a ton of questionable decisions on personnel, alienated most of his players and staff with backbiting and criticism, and then threw some of them under the bus publicly. The guy is terrible. He's Kahn-esque and Denver is stupid for hiring him. But hey, it basically means if he has any decision-making power at all, he'll run that franchise into the ground and we don't have to compete with them for a division title any time soon.

1.) Santa Clause
2.) Easter Bunny
3.) Tooth Fairy

Carlos - This is great info. I think only option 3 has a year around commitment. Options 1 & 2 only are committed to 1 day a year.
