Miami's Pick

Post by Lipoli390 »

Miami finished the season with the League's 10th worst record. That means the Wolves would not have received Miami's first round pick, which we got top-10 protected from Cleveland in the Love deal and then traded for Thad Young who turned into KG. It is top 10 protected again next season so I suspect we would not have received the pick next year either. But the pick is totally unprotected in 2017. In other words, we ended up trading what will be an unprotected first round pick in 2017 for a 38/39 year old former star who may play 20 minutes a game for one season after his 5 games this season. Go figure.

Just when I thought I couldn't have disliked trading the first from the beginning. Rebuilding teams don't trade future firsts unless you are really getting something in return. Young and Payne are horrible compensation.

If Dragic signs with Heat, I cannot see them failing to make playoffs next season in weak east. Starting five of Dragic, Wade, Deng, Bosh and Whiteside is probably best in eastern conference. I think Miami will be next year worse than Indiana but better than at least Brooklyn & Milwaukee and probably also better than Washington.

And while it kind of feels like we gave up a 1st rounder for Thad, the Love deal does not go through without the Philly deal because salaries would not match. I am sure an alternative to the Philly deal could have been found, but it's hard to predict what that would have been.

That puts the whole thing in a different light.

Who would have thought Miami would missed out on the playoffs? In the East???

I thought they'd sneak in toward the bottom of the seedings. But I didn't expect much from them and that was with Bosh. Obviously, the Bosh trade hurt that team a lot. Wade isn't capable of carrying a team for 82 games.

That being said... the additions of Whiteside and Dragic (resigns?) could put them in the mix battling for homecourt advantage next season.

Unless they get terribly unlucky next year I see no way the Heat miss the playoffs next year.
