Flynn over Curry, now the DEFINING moment of a failed franchise...thus far.

I'd probably put Ray Allen refusing to come here leading to a trade for Starbury and the Joe Smith debacle over the Curry miss because they both probably combined to cost us 1 title. I have to believe an Allen/KG duo could have pulled one off back in the day when you only needed two stars to win. The Joe Smith debacle pretty much put the finishing move on being able to properly build around KG after that. Curry is most effective on offense off the dribble which takes the ball out of Ricky's hands and we have no idea how Ricky holds up for 82 games primarily guarding 2's.

If Marbury didnt turn out to be crazy he and KG would have been as legendary as Stockton and Malone or nearly so. They matched PERFECTLY together.

I will admit I liked Curry a lot but when they started talking about him in the top 10 and top 5 I thought that was too high. I thought we should have leveraged him to get a nice return on draft day. It's fantastic that he has turned out to be such a good player and the people that were making comparisons to Steve Nash look a lot smart than me. Lol. I would have taken Derozen if there was no trade and I would have picked Lawson. The reality is that draft was Kahn at his best and worst. He got that pick to take Rubio and then botched pretty much every pick after that. NB and Hummel have a chance to make it less brutal but damn it was brutal. for GS they got Curry and then later "reached" for Klay (thought the idea they reached for a guy at that spot was kinda ridiculous) getting Draymond Green in the 2nd round and there you have their defining moments. Trading Love for Wiggins along with some other young talent gives this team a shot at getting it right again. We have seen other teams build themselves up by making the right picks. Hopefully it's our turn. I have some confidence in Flip to at least not totally bungle it up. Kahn set the bar pretty low. Lol lets be honest there is some randomness to what happens also. Guys are picked high for a reason and there are time they don't turn out. Mayo and Beasely were supposed to be stars and one is out of the league and the other is a bench player.

Rubio was an obvious pick at the time and every gm in the league would have taken him with one of our two picks. Even if Rubio was out of the league like Flynn I would not have a problem with the Wolves drafting him.

This discussion is about an idiotic move that should not have been made (Flynn), not about a move that was 100% right at the time.

Oh well. He is the Warriors star now. Good for them. Wiggins is going to be our defining player and is a byproduct of all the past failures. The Wolves time is coming. Lets focus on that now.

I would say those three drafts were definitely defining moments over our past decade. With Love on board from the year before and Rubio in hand, Kahn had a chance to add a 3rd major piece and he failed. He had two other chances the following two seasons and failed again (Johnson and Williams). Those three drafts were absolute killers and has helped contribute to a continuous cycle of losing and re-re-re-building.

My take was that the draft-day trade was all part of the plan to land Marbury. The way you have it painted, he was a consolation prize. I loved the Marbury move. I don't think that move was one of an overmatched GM like the Curry over Flynn pick. Marbury was a helluva player and fans, analysts and players around the league were gushing over the Garnett/Marbury pairing. They were compared to Stockton/Malone repeatedly. And for good reason. They were in many ways a great pairing who complemented each other so well. Garnett was the all-around-savant and Marbury was the unabashed confidence guy who wanted to take the big shot. The Wolves went most of another decade searching for a guy like that for Garnett.

Unfortunately, Marbury and his family were greedy and myopic. Immaturity won out. But I don't think of it as a bad trade at the time, or even now. If Marbury hadn't turned into one of the most irrational petulant players in modern NBA history, that trade would have been looked at as a pretty savvy move by McHale.

The Joe Smith debacle? Now that's a different issue. That one hurt... finishing with only Nbudi Ebi out of that stretch makes it all the more comical/sad/frustrating/angst-ridden...
