Grade The Trade #9 Williams/Neal

Post by Carlos Danger »

February 10, 2015

Traded Troy Daniels, Mo Williams and cash considerations to the Charlotte Hornets for Gary Neal and a 2019 2nd round draft pick. (2019 2nd-rd pick is from Miami)

Good trade because we got a future pick from a contract that was expiring.

It's not necessarily a bad trade considering Williams wasn't coming back. But, it's a tanking team trade. Only a terrible team can pull this off because it's getting rid of a guy who's obviously helping you for the promise of hope.

After 10+ years rebuilding this team... I wish the Wolves weren't STILL in that mode. I think by voting "Good trade", I'd be letting them off the hook... again.

So I voted "meh."

Abe, I'm with you on the "meh" vote, but I don't understand why you would call this a tanking trade, unless you knew that Neal was going to get hurt and not be able to contribute much. To me it was an exchange of backup guards who are relatively equal in their ability. Both are streaky shooters who can get hot and carry a team, but I would argue that Neal is the far better defender. Doesn't feel like a tanking trade to me.
