Off-Season Prescriptions

Post by Lipoli390 »

Here's what I prescribe for each of our key or potentially key players this coming offseason:

1. Wiggins - (a) rest, (b) strength training with personal trainer, (c) work with coaching staff on perimeter shot and ballhandling. No summer League!!!

2. LaVine - (a) strength training with personal trainer, (b) work with coaching staff on continued skills development.

3. Shabazz -- (a) work with coaching staff on three-point shooting, (b) work with coaching staff on three-point shooting, (c) work with coaching staff on three-point shooting ....

4. Pekovic -- rehab ankle and lose weight, rehab ankle and lose weight ...

5. Rubio -- fix ankle, rest and continue to work with shooting coach on perimeter shooting.

6. Dieng - strength training and work with coaching staff on boxing out and technique for holding position defensively.

Here is what I would prescribe that would help the players more than anything: Get a new coach.

Everything you said lipoli, plus a few things:

- Hiring Billy Donavan. He is a bright, young, accomplished coach who will do well with our young roster.

- Drafting either Okafor or Towns to man the middle for us.

- Adding a legitimate PF. After hiring Donavan my eyes would be on his former Florida guy David Lee who may be available because he makes a ton of money and doesn't play much. The Warriors may need the cap space. No clue what the compensation would have to be. I just don't want Payne or Bennett starting at PF next year.

- Improve the backup PG situation.

I think for Bazz you'd like to add defensive work to that list.

I think the only guys you can excuse from defensive work is Wiggins and Rubio. After that everyone needs to work there. If we don't get a new coach at least add someone known for their defensive work as a coach.

Flip and Glen need to pay up and get a d-league team affiliate all their own. If there is one thing I will continue to rip them for or plead for its that and it's just about money period.

Hmm it seems all of them have something in common lol. So basically the team generally needs strength training, shooting & defensive fundamentals. I REALLY hope the right coach comes along that causes Flip & Glen to pull the trigger.

here's what I prescribe: a signal in their heads that instructs them all to get sick of this losing and not used to it.

Takes time to undo 10 years of losing. We do have the most promising group of talent in the last 10 years, so I'm at least hopeful we're finally fighting that out.

I"m pretty excited to see Bazz back next year. With as well as Wiggins played down the stretch, and LaVine at times, it's easy to forget that Bazz was essentially the board's consensus best player halfway through the year.

With a wing rotation of Wiggins, Martin, LaVine, and Bazz, the wing is actually looking like a strength for us going forward. I could see us trading Martin (who is still a very good player and gives us key spacing with his outside shooting) next year if the three young guys step up and start hitting outside shots regularly and producing consistently.

Now if only we could keep Rubio healthy and get some good healthy bigs . . . .
