8.3 rebounds is good for 133rd in the league. Or, if we just choose rookies over the past 3 seasons, it's good for 41st. I don't care what context you use... I don't see that as good or a high rate.

Serviceable. OK. Decent. Not terrible. Alright. Meh.

It's all how you spin it. If we are having fun with small samples, then....Payne averages about 12 points/14 rebounds a game anytime he logs at least 35 minutes in an NBA game.

Wait a minute... I was told he rebounded "well"... when it was presented without any tangible evidence.

I simply refuted it... with stats. And yet, I'm the one who gets called out? Don't really understand that one, but whatever.

I presented tangible evidence for a rookie. You just chose to interpret it as not "well" and average. Nothing but semantics here. You didn't get called out Abe, you were just engaged in a debate in which you willfully entered.

He's 13th among rookies for rebounds per 36.
And that's right about in line where he'd be in each of the past three years among rookies. I just don't see how being that low among rookies for rebounding can be considered anything above average...

Semantics, I guess. But I'd say 12 other rookies rebounding better than the 15th pick in the draft is not as positive as it was originally presented.

He is 5th in RPG among rookies, and a number ahead of him in per36 average less than 5mpg rendering them statistically obsolete. I can see a few (Noel,McGary, nurkic) of whom I would call great rebounders for rookies. So if he is in the 3-5 ranking out of rookie bigs in rebounding certainly qualifies as well in my mind. But since you are citing 12 ahead of him as the basis for your statistically grounded analysis, who are they?

So, you're rewarding Payne for RPG when he's playing on a Wolves team where we're lacking bigs who can even take the floor? Pad those stats Adreian. Grab rebounds from his teammates. Elbow Dieng in the head doing so.

Good point. I will try not to reward a rookie anymore by trying to see positive aspects of his play.

LOL! If I could figure out how to give "+votes", I'd give you one for that Doper. Made me laugh.

It's just that Payne doesn't have any "positive aspects of his play" from what he's shown and you're doing your best to support him with meh stats. It's admirable and certainly a Wolves fan thing to do (see the little ounce of "good" in a lot of bad), but it's not that great of an argument, in my opinion. Payne sucks.

Well I guess that makes us kindred spirits with the passionate defending of Thad you engaged in this year.

Is that really the argument you want to make? I was defending a decent NBA basketball player who got killed on this forum and you're defending a guy who's worse than Justin Hamilton!

Payne has played poorly, even though he is athletic and hustles. Flip said they made the trade because they trust their scouting. It certainly seems fair to give Payne an off-season and training camp before declaring him a bust and Flip a fool for making the trade (which it could turn out to be).

Ok. So we remove guys without the minutes. I get that. In fact, I removed 8 already to get to those 13. But we can remove more.

Nurkic
McGrary
Aldemir
Black
Noel
Mirotic
Payne

Ok... so Payne is 7th among bigs who have played similar or bigger roles. Let's dig deeper. Who's worse?

Aaron Gordon is right there with him. Just a notch below. Travis Wear is a big who is below Payne. Other than that... I don't see another 4 with similar minutes who rebounds worse. There are some big guys, but they are listed as 3s and shoot a lot of three pointers. Guys like Damjan Rudez and Kostas Papnikolau. I did a list by TRB% on basketball reference. I can include the link... but it's really long.

In summary... He's hasn't been good at rebounding. He hasn't done it well. He's been serviceable. Average. Decent. Meh. So, if that's what we're hanging out hat on... ouch.

We'll see how he looks next season. Hopefully, he does better.
