Biggest Buzzkill of the Offseason
With all the optimism heading into the season, we aren't without our problems. Call this the "Check and Balance Tim Thread".
I'm going to say the naming of Sam MItchell as coach. It's almost the definition of a buzzkill.

Re: Biggest Buzzkill of the Offseason
Flip's cancer and struggles with his treatment program is without a doubt the saddest news of the offseason. But while the news was a downer, it wasn't the biggest buzzkill event for me in terms of impact on the Wolves. For me that was clearly the Wolves inaction in pursuing a new coach as soon as last season ended. I'm a big Flip proponent and appreciate how he has formed this promising roster, but even before his cancer, I thought it was a bad idea for him to wear both hats. I knew Flip wanted to continue to coach this team, so I was hoping Glen Taylor would step up and order him to find a new coach. My biggest buzzkill came last April when I heard that Glen was satisfied with the job Flip had done in light of all the injuries, and wasn't going to force a move this off-season. I still think Fred Hoiberg would have taken a Wolves offer if it had been given, but it just wasn't going to happen.
I'm over it now and looking forward to seeing what Sam Mitchell can do with this team, but I would have preferred to have the Mayor in there.

From a pure team performance perspective, I don't think Flip's cancer is necessarily the biggest buzzkill, although it certainly is on a humanistic level.
I voted Pek and Ricky's health issues, because those two, when healthy, are top half starters at their respective positions and can help turn us into a respectable basketball team. But Pek doesn't appear to be anywhere near ready and Rubio seems to be having a slow recovery as well.
Let's be very clear: Rubio is the best player on the roster as of today. If he can't start the season healthy and in top form, we won't even come close to the 30+ wins many here hope for.

Agree. But for me Sam the biggest Buzzkill. More of the same old revolving cast

I like the selection you chose even though I voted Mitchell. But you make a good point. I really though Pek would be ready by the season opener. Very disappointing.

I voted Sam Mitchell being named the interim head coach. With him as this team's leader, we're guaranteed in my mind to not get any creativity on offense or defense. We'll play the same outdated style of basketball and will be at a coaching disadvantage nearly every single game. Also, Mitchell will not utilize the versatility of this roster enough to make the impact that it should. We have players that can play two or three different positions. USE THAT. I don't believe he will.

Sam coached a few non traditional players in Toronto if I remember correctly. Garbosa comes to mind and Matt Bonner played plenty of minutes his first 2 years there. Bargs is another guy although I read Sam admits he should have handled him a bit better. I am not thrilled about Sam but I am not sure he is so stuck in old basketball as people claim.
On a side note it's funny that the Spurs with their trade of Rasho for Bonner they played a sort of stretch big before it was so cool like it is now.

Re: Biggest Buzzkill of the Offseason
I voted the health of Rubio and Pek. Their health will impact the team performance more then any of the other items. I hope Flip beats this thing and comes back and Sam has the team heading in the right direction and proving doubters wrong. Sam is a cool cat and Jerry is such a dork it is hard to take the guy seriously at all. I am excited to get this season going.

Pek has been the biggest buzzkill on this team for a while.
