That is an interesting question I thought the answer was easier tog find but it wasn't. Lol It seems weird that you could and a quick look I didn't find anything that said you can't. If you trade a guy and that team waives them you can't resign them for a year but I didn't see anything about being waived or a buyout. I would be interested to know the answer.

I don't know for sure, but it seems to me the answer would be that it is legal, but unlikely. I think that once a player clears waivers, he is free to negotiate with any team...including the one that waived him. In most cases, though, even if things appear to be handled well on both sides and nice things are said, it has to sting to be bought out. So I would think the Wolves would be the last team AB and his agents would want to negotiate with.
The cap argument is not a good enough reason to let him go. The jump in the cap is big enough where we'll have max space with or without him. We have so many young guys on the roster across every position that it's not like we're gonna bring in 2-3 guys next year. It's gonna be one big name or another small piece like a veteran pickup, but neither would have been affected by picking up AB's option. The money simply was a non-factor outside of a guy just making more than he's worth which is a large chunk of the league anyway. But saying he had to go because he was making too much isn't a valid argument because his contract simply wouldn't have made a difference for other acquisition opportunities. At the end of the day we did another guy a favor we didn't have to. At some point these favors better pay off or Flip is just letting talent out the door for nothing in return instead of developing it or utilizing it to win games like he should considering he's the one who acquired all these guys in the first place.

He wasn't going to get on the floor this year for any meaningful minutes. If he were an undrafted free agent or the former number one pick, it didn't matter either way. The only reason anybody is upset about this is because of his draft position. Personally after years of Beasley and Williams I just don't care about draft position, only production. I wish AB all the luck in the world, but I just don't care that he's gone.
Edit: He has been available for months now and not a single other team would give up a damn thing for him and his contract. This isn't just the Wolves, nobody see's him as having value beyond a cheap reclamation project.
