Bennett vs Rudez for final roster spot
Re: Bennett vs Rudez for final roster spot
Ehonwas the person making a case for Brown because the team is sort of low on true SGs? Now that Bennett is out of the picture Brown sticking around makes some sense depending on how they feel about Tyus. Development-wise Inwould rather keep Brown over Rudez because he could be a worthwhile combo guard option off the bench for this team long term. If they get thin at C because of injuries they could just cut either guy and sign a dude from the d-league or whatever.

I agree, Monster.

Good question, Ricky. I don't see a need for either Rudez or Brown, so I think they try to keep some flexibility until they see how ready Pek is. AB played a lot of center this summer, and with his length and bulk could have filled in at C if needed. But with him gone, we may find ourselves thin at C if Pek can't go. I think they may be looking for another big body in that case. Raduljica would have been a nice option after his strong showing in the FIBA tournament, but he signed for two years with a Greek team. I actually wouldn't be surprised to see the return of Ronny Turiaf if he is healthy after his year off. I don't think the Wolves want to be left short at center again this year after seeing Hummel and Bud play there at times last year!
I don't see center position to have any shortage. Dieng, Towns, Pek, KG, Payne. All can log minutes there. You can argue about the quality of depth but then you can't bring up left overs like Radulica and Turiaf into conversation. They will not help us.
As for who should be kept I'd vote LoBro. We need good defensive players who can guard PG/SG. Plus if Martin sprains a finger we look kind of thin at SG and Brown can play there. And if Rubio goes down we find ourselves with grandpa Miller, teen Jones and Lavine at PG. Any of them will get raped by Westbrook, Lillard, Curry.

I vote Lo-Brown to stay on the island.

I would beg Ridnour to play this year.

I would rather see what Brown has plus Luke has said he isn't playing this year despite interest from various teams.

I think we know what Brown is. He is a d-leaguer. I know Luke has said he won't play, but this situation might be attractive to him and would rather have him on the roster then Brown. At this point he certainly is still better then Brown.

We might as well expand this to a possible FA that's is still out there. Here is a list of guys. Click on the available tab to see who is left.

A couple thoughts on the list. There are some solid players left which means there are probably a few decent players that will be cut or aren't even on the list. If the Wolves have to find a guy later in the year especially a big they can get someone who can play a few minutes.
Back to Rudez and Brown. Rudez offers 3 point shooting which is a sore need here. He sounds like he was a solid basketball player in other areas despite his lack of rebounding. The upside is pretty low for the future.
Brown is a guy this franchise clearly likes and has for a couple years. They drafted him and last year they brought him back and then signed him to deal for the rest of the season and a non-guaranteed deal for this year. They reworked the deal for his guaranteedoney this summer to keep Brown around. If there is one thing Flip seems to know and that's PGs or guard that can handle the ball and it seems he values Brown which is a good sign for Brown's talent. Brown has legit SG size but is a true PG that just turned 25. I think if he has a good camp etc he will have a good shot at the roster spot. Another ball handling guard that can play SG which Brown can makes a lot of sense too. They can always cut him if they get really desperate for a big.

If they keep Brown is worries me. It means Jones is no where near ready to play. I would rather see LaVine playing PG again then Brown.

I don't the Brown hate. He's probably our best defender of PGs, rivaled only by Rubio, and SGs, rivaled only by Wiggins.
He's a guy that can be used for part time defensive assignments, or he can play heavy minutes during injury crisis. He never b/tches about his role. He's dirt cheap and still young. To me that much more valuable than 29 y.o. Croatian Steve Novak or retired Luke Ridnour.
