What scares me most is this franchises shortcomings in player development, especially developing guards and wings.
I came in to the season with an open mind to Sam coaching, but he is simply out of his league. And as for our assistant coaches, I see no results coming from them. The coaching panel needs a total overhaul and Milt Newton hasn't done enough to take over Flips role as POBO.
This up coming off season may be the biggest in Wolves history.
Sure. But there's a very strong whiff of nobody willing or able of having the authority to do so.

He kind of landed in the spot unexpectedly and without his own coaching staff. The bright side in all this is we get to see how the players respond to adversity, we get a new coach next year and keep our draft pick. Its all good!
That's the Minnesota Timberwolves fan spirit!
"Wait til next year. We mean it this time!"
What's wrong with aligning expectations with reality and seeing the silver linings for the future? The cornerstones are all 20 year olds. How often do teams led by 20 year olds make a deep playoff run? I wouldn't have minded us getting into the playoffs this year, but now we are playing for the 8th seed at best against one of the best NBA teams in history. I'd rather keep our draft pick and increase the likelihood that we have a new coach rather than sneak into the playoffs with a losing record. Its all good!
I haven't been a big fan of Sam's, but I haven't lead the charge to fire him either... until very recently. Sam has a young team with solid veteran leadership, yet they've been regressing, not improving, not playing the same, getting worse against good teams and terrible alike.
If a young, and by all accounts talented team is getting worse with more experience I just don't know how the fingers can point at anybody other than the coach. Yes we could point an accusatory finger at the players lack of heart in the most recent stretch of games, but they were playing with a competitive fire early in the season, what could be the cause of the fire going out? Maybe they've lost faith in Sam's ability to put the team in position to win (be that in game adjustments or just general system) and have resigned themselves to the inevitable, losing. I simply can think of no other reason why they would not be competing like they did early in the season.
Bottom line, I love Sam the person, loved him back in his playing days, don't mind his presence on the coaching staff, I just don't like him sitting in the number one position and do not think it's good for the team's youth.

Well said. Players generally stop listening to or playing hard for a head coach when they realize he's not making sense. Sam can be a solid assistant but he's way out of his league as a head coach in the NBA.
Problem with sam is that he is more of a mentor type than an actual head coach. He mentors and motivates but when it comes to game planning, system, x's and o's and in game adjustments, he is way over his head. We need an actual coach that can form a structure and run a system. Sam is just not head coach material. Too bad that he likely stays for the rest of the season. We are wasting Wiggins and KAT's formitive years with sam as the coach.

He's too emotional. This team is so mentally spent right now it's almost funny. I warned the board two years ago what a Sam Mitchell coached team could look like. This is what I was talking about. For the love of God we need him out of here before he does any more damage. We have good - great young talents who are losing a crucial year of their careers.
