NFL Team Cuts

Post by bleedspeed »

Figured I was start this thread.

Joe Haden cut by Browns. Saves them about 5M. Has a cap hit of 3M this and 3M next year. The salary for this year alone was 11M.

Good thread.

Interesting since they still have a bunch of cap space this year. Is he still any good? Was this a favor to him to let him go somewhere else?

One of my favorite names of guys that has been cut is Jimmy Bean and he has been cut by both the Raiders and the Broncos. :)

QB Brock Osweiler released - I wonder if he makes his way back to Denver.

No suprise - The Vikings are releasing offensive lineman T.J. Clemmings, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

They were better when he wasn't in this preseason so it's not shocking. On the other hand saying they were better isn't the same as saying the were good, so yeah, a bit of a surprise.

This is going to be a long season for the Vikings, and a short season for that part of my attention span that typically is focused on the Vikings. It's too bad really, I like Zimmer, but I believe this team is about to crater which will be the end of Zimmer's run, and maybe Spielman's too.

Cutting Boone kinda reminds me of when they moved on from Fusco. They probably felt like they could fill that spot with another guy that was probably close enough to average. Heck they didn't even keep Kerin and the was decent when he played as a guard last year. Supposedly Boone wasn't willing to take a pay cut. Unless he was awesome this year there was no way they were going to pay him 6 million the next however many seasons to be average or below average. Might as well play the younger guy. Boone is what like 30? About time to replace him with a younger guy. I am surprised but it also makes complete sense.

On top of that because of the injuries to Boone and Reiff and Berger moving to RG it wasn't like he had that vet chemistry a vet normally has. Easton probably had as much time playing next to guys that mattered as anyone. If they kept a Tackle that's promising over Boone it's pretty easy to support that right? Also some people wonder if Boone didn't fit in as well with what they wanted to do blocking. Fit matters for oline man especially interior guys. It will be interesting if he gets picked up.

Clemmings, Beavers, and Kerin picked up.

Interesting article on Clemmings and Beaver. I was ready to move on from Clemmings. I would have likely kept Beavers over Collins. Still surprised Collins made the team.

It's interesting when the same teams pluck guys from the same team. Last year Washington signed Sully (who I believe is the starting center for the Rams now) and now they have Clemmings. It's not a bad pickup to get a young guy with that much experience. A change of scenery could be good for him.

Beavers was ahead of Collins playing in preseason but maybe that was a plan all along to keep Collins. Offensive line it really matters what scheme you play in. Maybe Collins fit in the scheme better than Beavers. I honestly don't have a lot of respect for Coller's football acumen although te article was worth writing. He said Beavers is young than Collins and has more upside. Why? Because Beavers is 7 months younger and already has been In the league a year? Word is Beavers is on the Pats PS not the regular roster. Meanwhile Collins ran a 4.81 40 which is insane for a Tackle prospect. Beavers was available to every team last year for teams to sign on their roster or PS nobody signed him. Suddenly he is awesome? Sure...maybe...I doubt it. Could these guys be the wrong guy to cut? Sure. Maybe they shouldn't have let go of Symmek and he will have a HOF career as a punter. You can't keep everybody. I have doubts most Vikings fans are losing sleep over letting either guy go. Kerin is probably the best player of the 3 olineman that got picked up.

I am with you. I am just going off what I saw of Collins against Miami and he didn't look very good, but at least he could play LT. I think losing Kerin might be something we regret. He could play both G and C. Then again you have 3 guys that can play center starting. I wonder if they would consider switching them around based on matchups. I have never seen it done it would be an interesting thing to throw at a defense.
