Good, we have our backups, now we just need our starters and we'll be set! That's how most teams are built right? You trade 1st's for bench guys, and 2nd for starters. 2 is a bigger number then 1

Good luck drafting a starter after pick 15. It happens, but it is far from a guarantee that pick will be any better than Payne. Cheap backups are still very important for building a team and Dieng and AP have the potential to be great deals for the next 2-3 years. It leaves more cap space to go after the big fish that just don't often come from mid-first round picks and later. As long as they are rotation guys they are good trade chips to land a big fish via trade as well.
I'm not saying Payne is a All Star lock but why do some people here already seem to think he has no future as a starter in the NBA? How can you already say that with such a limited sample size? It's not like he's undersized or has no athleticism, I think he has a great chance of being a quality starter, just wondering what your thoughts are.

There is definitely a rush to judgment faction here for some reason. Not sure what the dynamics of that are but I agree with you - why do we have to decide right now if he's starter material or not?
Yeah, Payne's dunks got a little overshadowed by Jordan, but he threw some down with a vengeance last night, and I liked how he seemed to be going at Jordan a bit. The kid has some fire.
If he wasn't always hunched over and if his jump shot didn't start with the ball dusting the floor, I would be all-in buying this guy's stock.
He needs a solid summer of coaching but as mentioned previously, not sure you can argue giving up a mid to late round pick for a guy who CLEARLY has talent and fits a need for the future of this team.
