Rubio is a steep price to pay for WCS, so I don't think I would go that far as much as I do like Russell. We need some veteran stability on the roster. But Bazz, Martin, Payne, and possibly Gorgui. or taking on a not so great contract. I think zeroing in on Orlando as a possible trade partner as they are in that WCS range, and Channing Frye seems to be overpaid and can shoot the 3 ball.

Wiggins / Cauley-Stein / Okafor
Russell / Wiggins / Cauley-Stein

It'd bold, I realize that. And while I am a big fan of Rubio, I think a defensive anchor like Cauley-Stein is harder to find than a point guard in the NBA is. Hopefully that doesn't come off like I'm downplaying Rubio's impact on the court.

I wouldn't go that far as to trade a proven Rubio for an unknown guy. That's big time risky. I agree about getting that defensive anchor though.

I doubt there's a Holiday/6th pick type trade out there anyway.

BUT for the sake of interesting discussion, what if Sacramento, who needs a point guard badly, called with a package around the 5th/6th pick and WCS is there?

I'll take this a step forward. What if this whole LaVine at PG thing wasn't just Flip trying to accelerate his learning of both positions? What if he's seeing if Zach can handle the job and using Ricky as an asset? Doubtful, highly doubtful, but I'm throwing a bunch of hypotheticals out lately. Add this to the bunch.

What if we took Russell at 3 to be the point guard moving forward? Russell / LaVine / Wiggins / Dieng / Cauley-Stein as the potential five moving forward.

I'd also be just as fine keeping a proven guy in Rubio, but like I said, it's an idea. As an NBA GM, I'd assume that every situation has to be accounted for and every player has a price.

If we draft Russell or Mudiay, then the trade is easier to make. We desperately need defensive front court help.

What a great game, great second half for towns on offense. WCS is a beast and will be a Mutumbo like force for a team. In fact I was finding myself comparing them to those Georgetown teams with mourning and Mutumbo.

Even though his shots weren't falling grant will be a nice guard. Notre Dame showed that quickness can give Kentucky trouble. I don't know that Wisconsin or Duke would provide that though.

I'm with you 1000%.
Any of those outcomes leaves us with more potential than we currently have. Martin, Bennett, and Budinger or a future first to Orlando as long as WCS is there, and we get Okafor or Towns with our pick. I hope they'd take it. I just want the pick, nothing else.

I'm assuming Towns here...

Rubio / Brown / LaVine
LaVine / Wiggins / Neal
Wiggins / Shabazz / Budinger
Towns / KG / Payne
Dieng / WCS / Pekovic

I think there is the perfect mix of offense and defense in both of those lineups. Highly unlikely to happen, but a guy can dream, right?

The Magic, nor anyone, would trade that top-6 pick for Martin/Budinger/Bennett. Probably won't get a 1st rounder for that based on contracts.

Picks that high mean you have to give up something of high value. Holiday was a young Allstar before being traded. That's why I mentioned Rubio. And the team trading for him would need to have some sense of desperate need.

If the Wolves gets the 1st pick, would it be possible for them to trade down for two top 10 picks?

I am very intrigued by Winslow. If the team can get WCS and Winslow, they shall be all set for success.

Mid-lottery picks aren't nearly as expensive as top three's, cam. David Kahn was able to pick up a #5 by taking on bad contracts and only giving up Foye and Miller. Rubio is a substantially higher price than that.

That is the only mid to late lottery trade I can remember. Can anyone think of another example to help set the value of a pick in the 5-12 range?

What's ironic about this proposal is that Rubio is one of the top 2 or 3 defensive point guards in the league. That's not easy to replace, never mind his ability as a set-up guy on offense.

Nobody would give the Wolves a top 6 pick for Rubio, lets be honest
