The whole point of calling someone injury prone is to say they are more likely to get injured in the future. It is a future predictive term. If you aren't comfortable saying you think he is likely to keep getting injured in the future then you can't call him injury prone because that is literally the whole point of the phrase. He will be prone to injury or he's been injury prone. Been, being the key word there .
You hear "He is injury prone" more often than both of those which means his is more likely to be injured now. You have been saying he is injury prone because of his past. If you are saying someone has been injury prone then you are either insinuating they still are injury prone or they are no longer injury prone. In your case you are saying he is injury prone based on his past, but that in and of itself is declaring he is more likely to be injured which is a reference to a future injury event.

Curry has missed 10 games total over the past 3 seasons. He's missed a large chunk of only one season, four years ago. Rubio has stayed healthy for only one season.
But Curry is the injury prone one? (not saying Rubio is necessary... but the narrative with Curry doesn't ring true.)

Hmm. I seem to remember Curry having many many ankle issues before. Maybe I am imagining it. There is however, a YouTube video named https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jn0sLhDkBzkStephen Curry's many ankle injuries. Some have had concerns that his ankles could cost him a full career. As recently as February, Curry himself had to explain that recent foot soreness had nothing to do with ankle injuries. I still think he can be classified as prone to ankle injury.
I think you either have to classify Rubio as injury prone or a princess....he is one or the other. Some argue that because he hasn't had the exact same injury that he is not "injury prone". We have argued this in the past. Some guys are just tougher than others and manage to work their way through injuries. Rubio, whether "injury prone" or not, is not one of those guys.
I don't think you classify Ricky as injury prone, and I definitely wouldn't challenge his toughness. He was back on the court in about 9 months after his ACL/MCL(?) tear. That is a very fast recovery for that type of injury, and you can't discount the type of injury. Curry was rolling his ankles with nobody even around him, while Ricky was trying to guard Kobe on a drive.
Ricky has stated this was his first sprained ankle, so his recovery time would be extended. I think both are somewhat isolated injuries, so I don't think I would label him injury prone at this point. If he goes down again next season, all bets are off.
Derrick Rose has his picture next to the words "injury prone", and is clearly not a guy that can fight through things.
