Opening Night

Post by 60WinTim »

Finally, the real games are here! It's been a cool night already. Moments of silence for Flip as well.

Bulls nip the Cavs in a very entertaining game. The Warriors are just starting. Decent ring ceremony -- I like Adam Silver so much more than Stern. But the Sager suit was.. umm.. pumpkin color for halloween?!?

Great to have real basketball back. I watched a little of the Bulls/Cavs game when I wasn't watching the WS...exciting finish. The Bulls look really deep to me...Portis and Hinrich were both DNP-CDs, and Noah is coming off the bench. Mirotic is either going to be an all-star or the guy with the perm trying to guard him is the worst defender in the NBA...Nikola went for 19 and 9 on only 11 shots.

NO is kind of hanging with the Warriors, but they are starting Nate Robinson at PG (because Holiday can't stay healthy) and Dante Cunningham at SF. Would those two guys even be in our 10-man rotation? I get that Davis is superman, but I don't think the Pellies are deep enough to finish ahead of us.

Pistons had a big first night winning in Atlanta. Maybe 538.com was right in calling KCP a top 50 player...scored 21 tonight.

i caught only last 5 minutes of CHI-CLE, does anybody watched the whole thing? Love looked so off on defense it was unbelievable, he even gave up a board of a three throw. Even with him scoring those 2 three pointers he basically lost them the game :-)

And Davis struggled so much it was painful to watch.

Did you see the injury report for New Orleans though? Evans, Holiday, Asik....All out. That's 3/5ths of your starting lineup for the first freakin' game of the season! If they can get healthy, you better believe they are a better team than us.

Injury prevention and recovery is the new scientific frontier in basketball. The #1 reason Golden State won the title last year is because they were healthy and practically everyone they played along the way had at least one major guy down.

Yep, all out...and with the kind of injuries that could have them out for awhile. You must be higher on Dante Cunningham and Nate Robinson than I am, and I think their bench is garbage while the injuries continue. And, by the way, counting on Eric Gordon to stay healthy is the Pelicanic equivalent of our counting on Pek staying healthy...it's a long shot. Davis is terrific, but he's not a LeBron kind of player that can thrive without a supporting cast...I think there may be a few more 4 for 20 nights like last night if he continues to think he has to do too much.

I like Davis, but I also think the "best player in the NBA" talk is premature...I don't think he's quite ready. If I were a betting man, I would be all over the Vegas under total of 47.5 wins. I think they win 34...same as last year.

Just looking at the names on the roster other than Ryan Anderson and a bunch of PGs the depth is a bit uninspiring even if Perkins still has something left. That could easily catch up to them because they have guys that have had their own injury issues.

New Orleans won 45 games last season.

By the way, Ish Smith was arguably the team's best player yesterday (17/9) and he was with the team for all of ONE DAY. Then again, Smith should be used to new surroundings. He's on his 9th team in 5 years in the league.

45 wins in the Western Conference is like winning 50 or 52 games in the East. New Orleans is a good team IF they are healthy. Yeah, we can beat them if they are in as rough of shape as they are now and we stay healthy, but a fully healthy New Orleans team beats a fully healthy (excluding Pek) Timberwolves squad 3 or 4 out of every 5 games.....At least this season.

I hate to say this, but let's hope the injuries keep piling up for other teams for once. It would be nice to be on the other side of that equation.
