Such sad news...just devastating. A wonderful guy who was so important in the Minnesota sports community going back to his Gopher days. He seemed to be such a young 60, but you never know what pneumonia will do to a body already weakened by chemo. All of our fears when he couldn't get out of the hospital for weeks came to fruition today. Condolences to his wife, Ryan and daughters, and to the entire Timberwolves community. He will be missed by many.

Huge respect for him, and his son Ryan Saunders (hopefully he can carry on the legacy and coach the Wolves one day).

I know people had criticism for Flip as GM/Coach, but I can't remember a better stretch of successful drafts by the Wolves than what we've had the last 3 years. It's a shame he won't get to see what this team turns into.

Yes, he leaves a legacy of a wonderful family (he was so proud of his competitive dancing daughters) and a successful coaching career. And although he never won a championship, his GM moves have created a roster that could win one someday. I'm certain there won't be a dry eye in Target Center the night Debbie Saunders hoists that first championship banner.

Damn. Despite the latest news I still thought he would pull through. Very sad. RIP.

So happy and apparently healthy just 4 months ago. 60 is too young and we know the past 2 months have been brutal, but may we all be having so much fun four months before we check out. It was a good run for Flip.

Someone posted this video on another forum. Man it's tough not to feel emotional watching it. It incapsulates a lot of Flip.

Great minds think alike LST posted it first. :)
