Wolves Dangling Anthony Bennett as trade bait

Post by Carlos Danger »

A lot of us assumed it would come to this sooner or later with KG and Payne already set and most likely another big coming with #1 overall:

It would certainly open up salary and roster space. Maybe it's a sign they want to bring in Bjelica. I certainly hope so.

Maybe. But my gut on Bjelica has been that he's not coming here. I'm expecting a lot of moves starting draft day. At least we are finally starting to get some new rumors to chat about!

It's interesting to me that they've given up on him so completely. Given all the physical problems he's had his first two years the problem must be viewed as existing between the ears. If he gave any indication that he would get it mentally then you have to give him the chance to show he can do it physically IMO.

I wonder if Bennett and #36 can get us either the Lakers or Celtics 2nd 1st rounder. I know they were both trying to trade them, but im not positive on the reason.

I still would rather .move bjelica as his value is pretty high for a NBA unknown. I'd like to give Bennett one more year. After all he is only 21.

Bjelica, Budinger, 31 and 36 ... I wonder where we can get with that.

Wolves: Bennett, 31, 36
Raptors: Vasquez, 20

That's the dream trade for us.

I am ready to move on from AB and Payne at this point. I have more faith in Payne of the 2. I really would like to see us get Portis out of this draft. I think a Towns and Portis front line would be pretty nice building block IMO. I also see that Woods is sliding big time. He would be a guy I would look at at #36 if he is there. Lots of talent.

I wouldn't trade Bejlica for anything less then a top 20 pick that got a guy we targeted.

It will be interesting what moves are made.

It's interesting that this news has been released at the same time as Greivous Vasquez reporting that the Wolves are interested in him. Doogie has already linked the two as a deal that would make sense. I agree that it is logical...they have similar contracts, and neither seems to have a defined role on their team...but I would not be in favor. One of the most painful things for me to watch the past few seasons is the Wolves' defense whenever Rubio is not on the court, and Vasquez is cut from the same defensive cloth as Barea and Williams. Vasquez is a decent offensive PG, but I favor the defensive side of the ball. And his overall game isn't enough for me to give up on AB's upside.

Both Vasquez and AB have only one more year guaranteed on their contracts, so there isn't a great deal of risk with either. I prefer giving AB one more year, and them cutting him loose and creating $6 million of cap space if he hasn't shown enough. Flip, keep AB for at least one more year and find your backup PG somewhere else. Don't give us another year of watching opponents light up our second team...I can't take any more of that.

How we would get the 20 out of Toronto in that scenario doesn't make any sense to me. There may be a push to get a Canadian on the raps but ujiri seems pretty keen on talent, I couldn't see how he would rank Vasquez that low.
