Sorry, Doper. That's not going to be an option unless you S&T for Thad now! :)

I would not do that trade.

Did anyone see that Thad opted out of his contract? I was mildly surprised about that...

[Edit: oops, just saw Gymrat's post. He saw it. And trading for him would not be allowed unless he opted in...]

Interesting but I suppose not that surprising he opts out the FA class isn't exactly amazing.

This was interesting at the end of the article:

King is not confident that the Nets, who hold the 29th and 41st picks, can move up to secure a higher pick in Thursday's NBA draft.

"Do I think we can move up? I don't think so, but you still have to go through the process and find out," he said. "The price to move up is high, but it tends to go down when you get closer to the draft."

You just got so excited Tim :) I'm mildly surprised as well, and it doesn't make sense to me considering TV money doesn't roll in until next year and almost every team is gearing up for that, so maybe he's not sure how this year will play out and he's looking for insurance now?

It's the same thing with anybody that has an opt-in/out clause this year. Unless you're a crappy player concerned with nobody wanting you in 2 seasons, why opt-out this year and look for a longer term deal? Just wait. The bump to the MLE and other minimums will be insane.

My guess is that's because the Nets aren't exactly in an advantageous position. Trading out of the mid/low-first to the top of the 2nd is ideal because you aren't locked in for 4 years to a guy that could be garbage. The Nets are sitting right in front of that threshold, and not high enough in the 2nd round to be enticing for a team on the cusp. Plus his team has virtually no other assets to negotiate with due to his poor roster planning to begin with.

Also believe a lot of good role players are going to get paid this offseason (Green, Thompson) because of the cap going up next year. Maybe Young thinks he can get more than 10 a year this year

We also don't know how far up the Nets are trying to get either but I thought it was worth mentioning though one GM saying the price was high. I will say on the other hand 29 has the advantage of locking a guy in for a few years at a really low salary and it's 2 picks before 31. :) I think those picks are certainly similar enough in value by themselves to 31 and 36 for it to be interested in what was said.
