I changed my mind

Post by ace [enjin:6598567] »

I don't want to trade Love for Wiggins. Dieng is going to contribute a ton this year. Shabazz is going to help our bench. Most of all, though, I really believe Zach LaVine is going to break out and the team will make a run.

It's pretty much a foregone conclusion at this point, but I don't want to trade Love. It might be irrational and stupid, but I'm tired of hope. We hoped Wes Johnson would be an All-Star. We hoped Derrick Williams would push this team over the top. We hoped Ricky would start to finish better(could still happen).

As much as some of you may currently hate him, Kevin Love is the only player on this team in the last 15 years that has met or exceeded his hype. I want to watch him get ridiculous rebounds through three guys and make the putback, hit stepback threes with a guy in his face, and drop pinpoint 75-foot passes into Corey's hands.

It's stupid, selfish, and could very well doom the immediate future of the team, but I want to watch Kevin Love this season and be able to say, "See that guy? He plays on OUR team."

Yeah, but in three years you could say: "You see LaVine and Wiggins on that fastbreak? Man, that was a thing of beauty."

It's been Wiggins package or keep Love for me the majority of the off-season, but there is a part of me that just wants Flip and his crew to rebuild properly. We've done a good job of that with Dieng and LaVine in back-to-back drafts. Wiggins would be a significant piece and anything that comes with him would (should) help the rebuild as well. I'm not sure what our ceiling is with Love, but I really like the ceiling Rubio-LaVine-Wiggins-???-Dieng COULD have.

You're tired of hope and you want to spend the next twelve months hoping Love doesn't leave you high and dry? No thanks.

I think most here would rather have Love stay but he wants to leave because its too hard for him in Minnesota. I've accepted it and am ready for what is best for the team.

If this goes down it will be arguably the biggest haul for a disgruntled star in modern NBA history, there's no way I'm hopping off the Wiggins bandwagon now, it's him or bust

It's been Wiggins or Keep Love for me too. I'm not interested in anything that will lock us in to being an 8 seed indefinitely(Bulls and GSW deals).

I think you missed my point. You said "I really like the ceiling Rubio-LaVine-Wiggins-???-Dieng COULD have." Sure, the ceiling of that team is a title contender for a decade, but that would require 3 of those 4 guys to hit their absolute ceiling. The odds of all of them doing it are about .01%. We've been able to get one guy in 15 years with a star ceiling to get there. There's no way we'll have 3 or 4 do it at once. Wolves fans live on hope. I'm sick of hope.

Look, I agree that the proper and safe way to do things would be to trade Love for Wiggins. That's likely what will happen. What I'm saying is that the odds of 3 or 4 young guys on a crazy young team all developing at once are really low. If you want to play odds, take the bet that says LaVine acts as our Lillard and Love decides to stay. Keeping Love is betting $50k at 3-1 odds. You have a pretty decent shot of winning, but if you don't, you lose your house. Trading for Wiggins is betting $50 at 3000-1. If you lose, everyone says it was worth a shot, but you're basically back where you started.

I doubt that makes sense to anyone, but maybe someone will see what I'm saying.

I don't see how you can bash (for a lack of a better word) Wolves fans for hoping a Rubio/LaVine/Wiggins/Dieng core works out, but you're hoping we're at least 10 wins better this year and can make the playoffs convincing Love to stay. I don't think that's completely unrealistic, but you're also giving yourself ONE year to make it all happen whereas I'm giving the Rubio/LaVine/Wiggins/Dieng core at least FOUR years to show they can gel. Time is my friend whereas time is your enemy.

I've been very vocal on this board proclaiming how unique and special Love is. That hasn't changed, but if I'm building a team and I have championship aspirations (which is the name of the game), then I can't afford to turn down a Wiggins package and roll the dice on Love and this one last year to show we can win when it might not be enough to keep him anyway. There are no guarantees either way.

I'm not "bashing" anyone, and I don't know how you could infer that I was. Like I said, trading for Wiggins is the "smart" play. Get the guy who's young with star potential and try again. I've just hoped for someone to be a star, then watched them fail, too many times to expect that it will happen with multiple guys at once.

Honestly I've been torn since the rumors surfaced that he wanted out pre-draft. If Love gave Flip any indication that Love would really consider staying then I doubt he'd make a trade. Given how deep these talks seem to be with the Cavs making moves makes me think Flip is really looking to trade him if the right deal comes.

It sucks b/c like you I think they'd really have a shot at making the playoffs and maybe even snagging a series. The team under performed last year. If they played to what we see on paper that puts them easily in the playoff hunt and if a couple of the young guys keep improving that likely puts them in. Then you have Lavine who could show us something this year.
