Thanks for posting, bleed, although it's not good news. It's basically what I was posting last night...Cleveland just isn't close to considering giving up Wiggins yet, and Flip will not pull the trigger without Wiggins. James has played with Love in the Olympics, and he must appreciate the dirty work that Kevin is willing to do...in addition to being a terrific scorer. He is certain to be calling the shots here in exchange for agreeing to come back to Cleveland, and I still think our only chance is for LeBron to insist that the Cavs trade us anyone we want not named Irving or James. I'm not holding my breath.

If LeBron signs in Cleveland, the deal will get done. He wouldn't go back there to play with a rookie, especially one with questions. Didn't Woj tweet yesterday that a deal was in place contingent on LeBron coming? If that's true, it's for Wiggins, since all reports say that's what Flip is asking for.
I don't think Flip could get all 4 of their young prospects though. Waiters probably isn't needed with all of our wings, and Cleveland will want to keep one of their big guys. It would be something like Wiggins, Bennett, and the 2015 Mia 1st, plus some salary filler. The Miami pick is what I think most people are sleeping on. If LeBron leaves, Bosh likely will too. That leaves Miami with not a very good team. Wade can't carry a team anymore, and that could be a lottery pick next year.

Re: Best Potential Love Trades
If Bennett, Waiters and Thompson wasn't good enough to get Love last year, it's not good enough to get him now especially when Bennett could have been Oladipo or Noel instead. It's Wiggins or no deal. I also want that Miami pick as well. I could still see them making the playoffs if they go after a Monroe or Bledsoe, but if they just end up with Wade and filler, that is another top 10 pick. Our pick is top 12 protected so we want to keep that because it turns into 2nd round picks and Wes doesn't end up costing us a first to dump. I want Wiggins, Bennett, the Miami pick and filler. I have no idea how these trades work separately, but here's the 4 way deal I was able to create on the trade machine:
MIN receives: Wiggins, Bennett, Eric Gordon, Thad Young, Miami pick
CLE receives: Kevin Love, JJ Barea
PHI receives: Varejao expiring, Waiters
NO receives: Martin, Bud, Brewer
Cleveland is getting Birdman and Ray Allen anyway if they get Lebron, so they won't miss Waiters and Varejao which is why I think it is at least possible.

Lol anybody think a team will come and take Bennett for two second rounders to clear some money for Cleveland? (Timberwolves - Beasley joke)
If the Cavs are getting Love, I see no reason why we shouldn't get Thompson in the deal. You'd think a 23 year old kid would rather play on a team where he'd be the starter as well.

Re: Best Potential Love Trades
I don't like taking on Thompson because he is already due an extension so the best we can get is 1 year out of him before we have to decide how much he is worth to bring back. I'd rather take on guys like Bennett because he still has a couple years to go before we have to decide what he is worth and if he is a keeper in this league. I don't like brining in anyone on a 1 year deal as part of a deal unless they are expiring filler because it leaves you in a tough spot of not wanting to let them go because they were part of the superstar trade and that skews your judgment for how much they should be paid.

So you'd rather take the lesser player that we'd have to overpay anyway since he's likely a bust...

I'd continue to insist on all 4 young guys and they take either Bud or Martin. I could see Waiters being taken out for the Miami pick if that works too. Love's a top 5 to 10 player for crying out loud and were taking a big risk on unproven prospects.

Re: Best Potential Love Trades
Thompson is nothing special at all. His production is not difficult to find from a replacement player and you would rather pay him more money, sooner? I'd take the younger guy who is going to be cheaper because he is on a rookie deal. If he's so good, then why has Cleveland been in the lottery in the East for multiple years in a row. The East is a joke and they couldn't even make the playoffs with one of the best scorers in the game because guys like Waiters and Thompson are nothing special. Thompson is worth no more than the MLE because you can get the same production for that cost. The guy doesn't even know which hand to shoot the basketball with. It's crazy to think you are declaring a #1 pick a bust with 1 injury riddled year under his belt. He couldn't even participate in the summer league or training camp so his limited production must be because he is a bust and not because he didn't even have a chance to get ready for the season on top of being a rookie. Bennett will be able to give you 12 and whatever by the time he is 23 and you can take that to the bank right now.
