"I think the reason so many people turn their nose up at the Boston deal is because it is much worse than a Cleveland Wiggins deal, and I agree that it is. But I think most of us think the Wiggins deal is dead. How good would the Boston deal look if you knew for certain that the Wiggins deal was dead?"
I'm judging each package by the parts in that particular package without comparing them. The Warriors and Celtics package (that you and Lip advocate for) aren't nearly good enough for Kevin Love. That has nothing to do with a Cavaliers package including Wiggins, which isn't even fair value, but it's acceptable only because of the ceiling Wiggins has.
Is Love a top-10 player in the NBA? Yes. Is he in his prime? Probably just entering it at age 25. Can his game mesh with other top players? His run on Team USA would say that's a yes as well. So why in the hell should we trade him for anything less than a potential star player? We shouldn't, and that's where I stand.
If we can't get Wiggins + pieces pre-season, we should hold on to him and let Flip try to win with him. If we're hovering around .500 again like we did last year by the deadline, we should still be able to make a trade with LA for a package around Randle + 2 1sts + expiring contracts (use that cap to pry Thompson away from GS maybe). I'd rather have that Randle package instead of any deal you can come up with from Cleveland without Wiggins involved.
Love has to go. What would you prefer....

I'm in favor of simply targeting one player from a team such as Klay or Wiggins and not worrying as much about the whole package. If a deal isnt centered around a singular targeted piece, then sorry. Roll the dice with Love. I'm not interested in just getting some pieces and gifting Love to anyone. Barnes, Waiters and Bennett do not move the needle for me. If we are settling I'd rather settle for future draft picks BUT not with a team that is holding out like Cleveland or GS, out of principle. Just go with Boston then.

I don't believe Loves trade value is diminishing.
Only one team can sign him in FA. Making a trade for him prior gives a team his bird rights which is huge leverage.
Cavs will bite. They aren't winning the East let alone the finals with the young roster they have. Maybe in 2 - 3 years but not next season. And LeBron ain't getting any younger plus he's only on the books for two years!
Love makes them favourites overnight. Flip knows this.

I'd rather pass on a Cleveland deal if that deal is Waiters, Bennett and some first rounders. Why? I think Waiters might hurt the franchise more than help it--there are too many stories about his selfish attitude and me first thinking and honestly he's not that good on either side of the ball and certainly he's unlikely to ever be a top 3 player on a top team and he is unlikely to accept being a role player. I think of him as McCants and I don't want to go through that again. I see Bennett and I see bust or reclamation project and we've already had too many of those. The picks Cleveland can get us will be end of the first round--not useful to any team other than San Antonio. What's more is that I think if we took a deal like that it sets a bad precedent. One is that we will cave and take anything. We need to stand for something, especially when the alternative isn't great. Players like Waiters and Bennett would also take roster spots away from guys who might in time be solid players like GR3. Not only do we enable teams like Cleveland or GS to disrespect us, but we enable players like Kevin Love to tell us what to do. Painful as it sounds, I'd rather keep Love (and I bet he behaves like a model citizen as he will be under intense scrutiny by all teams that might want to sign him) and Flip might get the team playing at a level where Love can change his mind. Further, a sign and trade could happen after the next season is over which might be as good or better than any crap offer. Flip's and this team's credibility in telling Cleveland we won't take a deal other than Wiggins and sticking to his pledge may be more valuable than the garbage we are offered. If Love leaves us emptyhanded, we still get to use the cap space and I strongly believe we'd be able to sign guys that are more useful to this organization than Waiters or Bennett.

Its funny how the Cleveland fans keep saying we have to cave, as offers will only get worse. I actually see it quite differently. I see Cleveland as having more time sensitivity than us--Not getting Love wastes one precious year of LeBron's career. We are not in any championship contending window so we don't have the same urgency. What's more is that LeBron can leave after one year if he wanted to, and if Cleveland implodes like the Nets did, then he could have second thoughts. Everything is perfect in Cleveland's world now, but the reality never lives up to the fantasy and a rough patch by the Cavs, an injury to one of their stars or Wiggins not living up to the hype (Oden and Beasley were once considered sure things) or internal dissension and Cleveland might change their tune awful fast. Right now if Love is a stock, you are buying it incredibly low and if Wiggins is a stock you can sell it incredibly high. With no decent offers out there yet, there really is almost no downside to waiting by the Wolves. On the other hand, Cleveland is playing a risky game if they try to wait us out.
