The only way I'd want to do the GS deal is if it was contingent on signing an extension NOW for a reasonable price, which I think is unlikely.

If Lee was making 8-10 mill it wouldn't SO bad, but having him at 14-15 while having to pay Rubio and give Thompson a max deal? That sounds terrible.

Grey- I'm not worried about Lee's contract. It has only two years left and it's unlikely it would push us into the luxury tax zone. It's Thompson's contract status that gives me heartburn. But the deal is intriguing. If Lee were to stay healthy, I think the Wolves could be pretty good with Lee, Pekovic, Thompson and Rubio. We were a .500 team last season in spite of losing an amazingly high percentage of close games. I think Flip's coaching alone will improve the team and I'm certain Ricky will be at least a little better. Thompson is a better shooter than Martin and a much better defender. Lee is still a very good PF. I'm assuming we'd get Barnes or Draymond Green (or both) and I think either or both of those players would improve the team as well. But I fear that Thompson would turn out to be a one-year rental.

Lip.....a "one-year rental" on Thompson in exchange for a "one-year rental" on Kevin Love doesn't make much sense to me....

At the very same time, we see the report that the Warriors are still refusing to put Klay Thompson on the table. Hmm. Warrior propaganda fed through the media? It's this simple. Flip would NOT be engaged in talks again with the Warriors if Klay is still "off the table." There is absolutely no scenario under which Flip bother talking with the Warriors unless they have indicated that they're willing to put Klay on the table as part of the return package for Love. So if the report that talks have reopened is true, then it's just a matter of negotiating peripheral terms such as who else will be included in the return package and whether the Warriors will take Martin in return and, if not, whether they might take Luc instead.

So here's my prediction. If it is true the two teams are talking again (meaning Klay is back on the table), then one of two things will happen in the next week: either the Wolves will do a deal with the Warriors for a package including Klay Thompson or the Wolves will end up doing a deal with the Cavs for a package including Wiggins.
I tend to agree with you, I think Klay is back on the table, I'm guessing they don't want the Cavs to know that though thus the denial (although I'm sure Flip would let them know wouldn't he?).

Yes, I sorry to say.

Lip, kerr talking to Thompson could have occurred a month ago. These media guys continue to regurgitate what others report without giving specifics.

Good point about Lee. I just don't like the idea of replacing Love with a guy not as good who isn't any better on D.

As for Flip's coaching. That's why part of me hopes no deal happens before the trade deadline b/c I really think Flip's coaching alone and the progress made by the young guys will give the team a good chance of making it into the playoffs. Those chances go up if he can make 1 or 2 moves to improve the roster yet this summer not involving Love.

I was very open to the idea of Thompson coming here until it started sounding like it would require a max deal. If they could somehow manage to keep him & Rubio at 12 mill or slightly less I'd be in favor.

Grey -- The problem is this. Even if we make the playoffs, a big uncertainty even with Flip coaching, it is highly likely Love would bolt as a FA next summer. Why? Because it's highly unlikely we'll be anything close to a championship contender next season even if we make the playoffs. Add to that the reality that Love has other issues with the organization that I don't see him getting over. So I don't want to keep Love just for a better shot at one playoff appearance with him on the roster. I'd rather take a step back and retool around Ricky by acquiring some high potential youngsters and picks.

A Ricky/Klay/Lee/Pek starting lineup will cost 57 million dollars alone in 2016. That leaves little room to bring in help so essentially the 2016 season has the towel thrown in before it even starts in terms of winning potential. Nobody is going to take Lee's contract off our hands without a first round pick attached even if it is expiring. Then you have a Ricky/Klay/Pek big 3 being your core 3 and in the West. That is a lottery core compared to what other teams are currently building. If GS could get someone to take Lee's contract as part of the deal which I think is highly unlikely, I'd be all for Klay, Barnes and a first for Love. That would be my number 2 behind Wiggins which is 50/50 right now in my mind.

One thing is for certain if we do deal for Klay...Kevin Martin has to go, whether it be through a Love trade, or a deal afterwards. We already have backups making much more than they should on the roster. A 7 million per contract for a 30+ year old player is outrageous for someone not starting.
