Interesting information, Doper. I hadn't heard anything about Parsons' character issues. He has really good stats, but I don't really know much about him. Could you fill me in a little more on the Dbag factor with Parsons? Thanks.
I heard an extended interview with him recently where he was talking about his modelling and his prospects as an actor and how much he loves living in LA in the offseason and doesn't like even think about being in Huston in the offseason. This was right at the time when the Love rumors had started and I said to myself no way this kid would ever be satisfied playing for the Wolves. If we had fears about Love's secret crush on LA I would have all of those fears tripled if we traded for Parsons.
He may be a fine character in terms of community involvement, effort in practice, etc. But he struck me as a huge dbag in the interview in terms of someone who really cares about superficial things. Maybe it is just my personal disdain for model/actors, but I would avoid those types if I was building a basketball team in Minnesota.
Thanks, Doper. I tend to agree with you. The Wolves need to focus on acquiring players who love basketball and not the lights of Hollywood. Interstingly, Kevin Love does not have a taste for the Hollywood glitz. I know that from a very good source who knows Kevin well. But it shouldn't surprise anyone given that Love has indicated he's willing to commit to Chicago or Boston. Chicago and Boston are great cities with great basketball traditions, but they are neither glitzy nor tropical. Kevin Love wants to win. Further, he lives and breathes basketball and loves the traditions of the NBA. He's willing to commit to Boston with nothing more than Rondo there because of the allure of playing for that franchise with his great NBA history.
Honestly, Love was the right type of player to bring here. He's just fed up after 6 years of front office ineptitude. Is Love a bit of a baby and prima donna? Yes, but he has a lot of company in that regard. Love is not a guy looking for opportunities as an actor, model or rapper. He's not a party type either. He typically stays home when his teammates are out on the town.
I don't want to read too much into that Parsons interview you mentioned. But the Wolves have little margin for error. As a result, the Wolves have to be particularly mindful of the types of people we sign, not just the types of players. Parsons is a terrific player and seems to be a solid citizen and hard worker. But if he's attracted to the trappings and opportunties of tinsel town, then he's not a good fit for the Wolves over the long haul.
