Salary Cap
What is our salary cap situation now? How much do you think we can spend on a free agent point guard assuming we will also sign KG and Bjelica?

Jerry Zgoda @JerryZgoda
Flip said for now he's comfortable with Tyus and Zach as backup PGs & doesn't feel need to add a veteran
Based on Flip's comments we are not getting a vet PG, at least not right now. He feels Jones & Lavine can handle backup. I'm definitely expecting Lavine to play mostly SG this year with spot minutes at PG.

Flip stated he does not see the need for a veteran point guard today. I think we can move off that topic for now.
Re: Salary Cap
I suspect we'll add a vet PG or combo guard somewhere along the way. It's just not a priority right away. Let's see what Tyus and LaVine can show in summer league, and then evaluate what would be wisest to add...

I'm ok with that. I actually think its better to throw them into the fire so they can develop quickly.

As somebody said earlier, these young guys need to play. Why would you bring someone in who would block that development? We're not winning the NBA title next year - this just in.

Re: Salary Cap
Assuming we sign KG (8 million), Bjelica (5), Towns (6) and Jones (1), and that we decline Hamilton's option (1), our total salary commitment will be at $75 million for 15 players, and the 2015-6 cap is $71.4. So without moving one of our players who we are committed to, Flip is done with free agency for the summer.

I am pretty sure ee would have the bi-annual exception available. I doubt we use it but it's there.

I think that Flip really likes Tyus and Lavine a lot. Bjelica's playmaking abilities could probably help the PG situation some if it got dire.
Re: Salary Cap
With Jones being drafted, I think it will take an injury first before they start looking . Cheap vets can be found or made trades for at anytime during the season . I'm sure the thinking is if Ricky goes down the season is lost and a vet will be brought in simply to lighten Jones work load . Not to make any substantial difference in wins and losses.
