KG the Mentor

Post by TeamRicky [enjin:6648771] »

Given that we have so much young talent, I'm curious as to how much mentoring KG can provide. I assume he will work closely with Karl, but who else. Can he help save the careers of AB or Payne? Teach Bazz and Dieng to play better defense? Help Wiggins play with more fire? Help Zach's game? I wish we had 8 KGs for each of our young guys, but anyone know how hands on KG is expected to be or is it pretty much just leading by example.

KG hasn't really been back for very long, but give him a year to work with a few players and I think we can see it payoff. If KG had time to really work closely with only 2 or 3 guys who would they be. For me 1. Towns, 2. Gorgui and 3. Payne (or AB if we keep him).

We just need a guy to lead and teach guys how to approach the game and give them an example. We haven't had that for years and it's one reason I think this team has sucked. Vet leadership is key I think it's one reason why the Twins really struggled for a few years they didn't have the leadership they had before.

setting a good example is what I think he will provide in terms of showing the younger guys that a big part of defense is communication and effort. Also KG ain't afraid to get on your ass if your slackin

I think KG has enough to go around but it will be up to the other players to seek it out and make something of it.The good news is it appears Wiggins, LaVine, Rubio, Towns, and Jones will eagerly seek out and utilize anything they can get. Bazz and Dieng seem the types to do so as well.

Report: Garnett will 'definitely' sign w/ MIN
Kevin Garnett will reportedly "definitely" re-sign with the Timberwolves this offseason.
While not official just yet, all signs are pointing towards Garnett suiting up for what will likely be his final NBA season with the Timberwolves next year. Garnett only managed to play in 47 games during the 2014-15 season, compiling averages of 6.9 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.0 steal per game on 46.7 percent shooting from the field, so he's clearly no longer a fantasy asset in most leagues. He will however be mentoring Karl-Anthony Towns, which can only be viewed as a positive for the Timberwolves young prospect.

I think he will too, but let's consider the source of this "definitely" bit...the one and only Charlie Walters the Shooter!

Charlie has made a career out of two types of tidbits:

1) The wild rumor...he famously gets these from "a little bird". 95 % of them turn out to be false, but Charlie hopes that everyone will only remember the 5% that pan out.

2) The sure bet that isn't going to be announced for a couple days. Charlie wants to be out there with the news first, but has to wait until he is certain it is going to happen. He then writes about it as if he has been told, when actually he is just saying definitively what everyone already knows is going to happen. Makes him look connected, which he is not.

The KG news is a good example of the second type of Shooterism. Knowing these two rules will help everyone when reading Walters.

I don't think of KG's mentoring in a 1 on 1 situation but more as the team as whole. Showing the young guys what a good work ethic looks like, being a non stop competitor in every situation, and demonstrating what being a good teammate looks like. I'm sure he'll have some individual mentoring with guys, especially on the defensive end, but those 3 areas I think we've struggled in for several years.
