Rank Them

Post by Carlos Danger »

Take the current PF Options we have on this team and rank them (#1 through #7). Give me the order you (as the professional NBA scouts you are) would rank them so that others can see who you feel is best and worst PFs on our roster. From experience, I know a bunch of you are going to respond with a bunch of "what ifs" or other questions/qualifiers. Don't. Just run with it and use your best judgement. It's all in fun. Pretend it's a prospect ranking of PFs and these are the seven guys you have to rank.

Power Foward Options for 2015/16 (not ranked/no particular order here):

Dieng
KG
Towns
Payne
Bennett
Bjelica
Hummel

Need clarification: Rank them as overall prospects, which includes both current value and future potential, or rank them in terms of current value only, i.e. who helps us the most right now?

You Son of a Bitch. I specifically said "No Questions!". :-). I don't know what my problem is. I always have a bunch of questions when I try these type of posts. I'm just not good at it I guess. OK, to your question - rank them as is - right now. If we held a draft today. Who would you project as #1 out of that group for PF?

Ha, this question screams out for clarification! And it's going to "out" my irrational love for the player everyone has given up on...Anthony Bennett. You're asking us to rank them as if we were having a draft today. But are we drafting just for 2015-6, or for the long term? I'm going to do it both ways, just to be difficult:

Value as a PF just for 2015-6:

KG
Towns
Bennett
Bjelica
Payne
Hummel
Dieng (I still don't see Dieng as a PF)

Long-term value as a PF:

Towns
Bennett
Bjelica
Payne
Hummel
Deing
KG

Ok here we go I will rank them how I would have them on a draft board with one exception

1. KG right now he is the best PF on the roster in the minutes he will play. You can't put him in the draft hypothetical scenario he may be a few months from retiring. He is the best PF on the roster until proven otherwise.

Towns
Dieng
Bjelica
Hummel
Payne
Bennett

Here is mine, RIGHT NOW - FUTURE POTENTIAL NOT CONSIDERED:

1. Bjelica - Tons of professional experience at the highest levels of play in Europe. Unlike a lot of Europeans, he actually has the right combination of size and athleticism for his game to translate to the NBA. If we get him for the MLE, that is a steal considering the contracts being handed out this summer.
2. KG - I'd rank him #1 due to his defense alone, but he won't play enough minutes to really justify that ranking. You can't be ranked #1 if you only play 25% of the position's minutes, right?
3. Hummel - This says more about the next two guys than Robbie.
4. Bennett - Shows flashes of potential, but hasn't put it together.
5. Payne - Looked absolutely clueless last season - disturbingly so. It's hard to believe that he was an instrumental part of an Izzo team. Age makes his future progression questionable.

I'm leaving Towns and Dieng out because, let's face it, Pekovic is the only other Center on the roster and he's a massive question mark. Even if he can play, it will be 15-20 minutes tops. That means Towns and Dieng will get the vast majority, if not all, of the minutes at Center.

Towns and Dieng won't be playing PF, so this is a purely "on paper" ranking you have here instead of a reflection of our roster reality.

You really have AB ranked over Bjelica in the right-now scenario? You must be trying to roust Cam out of his sabbatical.....

I'm trying, q, I'm trying...

I think Pek arrived back in town yesterday, so we should know more about his health soon. I'm continuing to be optimistic about his surgery, and hope that center minutes will go to him, Dieng and Towns. This will allow Towns to contribute bigger minutes at what I think will be his ultimate best position...stretch PF.

Most of my knowledge about Bjelica comes from highlight videos, which we know make almost anyone look good. AB's highlight reels are more impressive than Bjelica's, for what it's worth...just a much stronger, more explosive athlete, and I like the looks of his jump shot better too.

I've also seen Bjelica's most recent stats in Turkey...11.8 PPG and 5.7 RPG in 26.3 minutes, or 16.1 and 7.8 per 36 minutes. Not too bad. AB's per 36 stats were 12 and 8.7, and he put up those stats in a much better league. So, it looks like NB is the better scorer, and AB is the better rebounder. But can NB put up similar stats when he steps up to the NBA...probably not, but we don't know how big the dropoff will be. We
also know that AB battled injuries last year, so who knows how he might perform if healthy.

Maybe NB will surprise me and be a better producer in the NBA than he was in Turkey. But until I learn more about him, I'm taking AB over him.

There is only one "right" answer. The rest of u are morons :-). (We're not fighting enough).

1 is KG. He's a Hall of Famer!
2 is Towns. He was just drafted #1 overall
3 is Dieng. He has best track record of rest
4 is Bejelica . Euro MVP
5 is Bennett. Former #1 plagued with injuries/poor recent play has him sliding. still young
6 is Payne. Good size and athlete. Older and still questions on ability to take next step
7 is Hummel. Smart & solid. Limited ceiling. Undersized

I think it should be a 5 man ranking also. Towns and Dieng are going to play more center. Here's mine:

1) KG - It hurts me to say that
2) Bjelica
3) Payne - Like his athleticism / aggressiveness
4) Bennett - Could become the best of the group if he steps forward
5) Hummel - Robbie is Robbie

Looking at this list, maybe we aren't as deep as I thought.
