Towns had been scouted for years prior to coming to Kentucky. His game totally changed at Kentucky, as he was actually known more as a shooter and perimeter-oriented player in his prep days. It was absolutely no secret that he could knock down shots and handle the ball.

Guys like him start getting tracked and scrutinized at ~ age 15, if not earlier in some cases.

And yet there were some who either disregarded his outside game since they didn't see it in college or didn't know about it.

Like who? I hope you don't mean idiot fans like us. NBA player personnel people that actually do this stuff for a living sure as heck knew. And if they didn't, they should be fired. DX has an entire write-up on his unique skills prior to Kentucky and that's public information - just a fraction of what's available to the people who do this for a living.

As far as Towns continuing his schooling. If he was maxing out on classes over summer and trying to hammer out his degree in a short amount of time I could see having concern, but I highly doubt that's the case. I see it as a good sign that shows learning is important to him which translates to learning on/off the court as well.

Even though I teed up the topic of Karl going back to school, it was somewhat tongue in cheek. I was equating it to how Rubio gets ripped here sometimes for not working on his shot during the summer. Obviously Karl has time to both work on his game and take a few classes during the summer, just like playing for his national team doesn't preclude Ricky from taking 500 jump shots a day. I never understood that concern.

Now, if someone questioned whether the wear and tear of playing international basketball in the offseason is good for Ricky, I think that would be a valid concern. But the concern is usually presented as not giving him enough time to work on his shot, which I find kind of silly.

Gotcha! I guess it's obvious you were saying that if this particular idiot fan (i.e. me) read more carefully.

Per Jon Krawczynsk (Twitter) & Rotoworld:

Karl-Anthony Towns made nine straight 3-pointers at practice on Monday.
"I need to take the rim on a date or something," Towns said. "It didn't treat me well on the 10th one." Well, it sounds like someone has been listening to Swaggy P. Whatever he's doing in his off time, Towns looks like one heck of a prospect for the Wolves and arguably an even better one for fantasy owners. There is almost too much to like here.

Sounds like Town's first practice went very well. Here's the interview: http://www.nba.com/timberwolves/video/teams/timberwolves/2015/07/06/TownsPracticeReport76mp4-3638196/
