I don't like charge drawn as a stat. We already see way too much flopping and such and I'm scared making it a stat may increase unnecessary charge plays. I liked it when defenses weren't looking to draw charges, rather just make basketball plays. Too many crap unnatural penalties now days.

Q12543 wrote:Thanks for posting Monster. Good to see Towns and Payne lead in that category. I think these stats are more transferable to the real NBA games, along with rebounding and assists. Just as a reminder of what the Hustle Stat consists of, here is a breakdown:

2-Point FG Contested (C2FGA) - Defensive players will be assigned a 2-point FG Contested if they make their presence felt by raising a hand to contest a shot inside the three-point line prior to the release of the ball without fouling or blocking the shot attempt. A 2-Point FG Contested will still be awarded even if the offensive player makes the shot, another player also contests the shot (leading to both players being assigned a 2-Point FG Contested), or the ball is never actually released from the shooter's hands due to the contest (provided the offensive player demonstrated a clear intent to shoot as opposed to simply pump faking).

3-Point FG Contested (C3FGA) - The same rules of a 2-Point Field Goal Contested apply to a 3-Point Field Goal Contested, except the Field Goal Attempt must be outside the three-point line.

Deflection (DEFL) - A defensive player shall be assigned a deflection upon redirecting the intended flight of the basketball through intentional physical contact on any non-field goal attempt. A deflection is separate from a steal, and does not require either control of the basketball or a change in possession. A kick ball also results in the defending player being awarded a deflection.

Loose-Ball Recovered (LBR) - A player shall be assigned a Loose-Ball Recovered upon gaining sole possession of a live "50/50" ball not controlled by either team. A loose-ball recovery can occur after a deflection, a block, a field goal attempt, or any other situation in which players must exert effort to gain possession of a live ball not directly in their individually controlled area (i.e. the ball does not come directly towards them or the recovery is contested). A loose ball recovery that leads to a jump ball results in half a Loose-Ball Recovered for both players involved in the jump.

Charge (CHRG DR) - The defensive player shall be assigned a Charge Drawn if the offensive player dribbling the basketball charges into an opponent that has established a legal guarding position. This occurrence will be directly called by an official on the floor.

Payne especially will need to excel in these stats to earn playing time, as I don't see him being particularly good in any of the traditional box score and efficiency metrics. Rebounding seems to be the one thing he's at least average at.

Thx for that, Q...good stuff. I think they missed at least one charge drawn by Payne though.

But more importantly, what , um, establishments have you been patronizing out there?

Ha, I'm happy to report my days of over the top bad behavior in Vegas are over. My day yesterday was strictly G-rated, expect perhaps for some ogling at the girls at the pool and Byron Scott's girlfriend!

Flopping is a problem but let's remember that taking a charge is a terrific basketball play and it's better than a blacked shot in impact. You for sure get the ball and draw a foul on the other player. It can be a huge momentum play. For these hustle stats I would add flopping as a negative catagory to track.

Rather attractive in a store-bought way, but I have also heard some conjecturing that she may not have two X chromosomes.

I don't get all this Payne love simply because he played hard? okay... he looked exactly the same as he did last year... Disaster on offense and a turnover waiting to happen.

Whenever he's on the court i just get this feeling he's going to do something stupid, he basically a way less talented version of Javale Mcgee.

Well, the bit of love is not because he's earned his way into the rotation, but because there seems to be some improvement. He's got some of the things you would like to see in a rotational player - length and athleticism, a nice motor, and some skill. If the BBIQ part could develop a bit (okay, a lot), well there might just be a decent player there.

The one thing I really like about Payne is he brings some much needed toughness to the roster. He isn't afraid to go up and fight for the ball in traffic, no matter who he knocks out of the way - teammates included. He's a bit of a bull in a china shop, but he isn't going to get pushed around without giving it right back. I like that in him.

This is SL where assuming you have some sort of green light from the coaching staff you should be aggressive offensively. Payne should be aggressive on that end of the floor see what he can do or not do. i don't want to give the idea I am too optimistic but his jumper liked better and most of his misses looked like they were on line. Payne does have some skills he just seems a bit awkward in his movements if he can slow/smooth things out sole that would help.

I will also say it looked like he was very vocal out there on defense at least I noticed that in the 1st half the 2nd half I got a little more wrapped up in the game. There is so much to watch in these SL games. Lol if Payne could turn into a PF/C version of Dante Cunningham I would take that. I think that's the type of context people with praise for Payne are coming from.
