Need to make non Love moves now

Post by alexftbl8181 [enjin:6648741] »

Love is probably going to take a minor backseat now to the Lebron and Melo stories so I would like to see Flip make some moves to plan as if Love is on the roster next season.

Namely you have to get 2-3 bench players with one being a PG for sure.

Problem is you only have a mid level to offer.

Livingston
Frye

You might be able to get one with the mid level but for sure not both.

Steve blake

would be in my next tier. I see him going to play for a contender like a heat rather then the wolves however

Nate Robinson

I think he had a player option. Missed the year but would be totally willing to trade a JJ or Lexi for him for a year

Stucky

I think he would be a fine backup for cheap. Anything more would be too much though.

The starting 5 if all healthy you know will be good. If Bud is healthy and Rubio makes a jump, You can be a top 5 team in the west.

I'd also like to see the Wolves PR build up Love more as a better guy and a valuable player. If you do wind up with him to start the season, you can't have the fans turn on him

You are aware that guys can't be signed until July 1, right? Anybody whose deal is up is also a guy we can only trade for negotiating rights which still gives them the option to leave in Free Agency for nothing for a better offer. It makes no sense to bring in anyone else until the Love situation goes one way or the other.

I think Blake would be a great fit here but Kobe loves him and so I would think he goes there (or as you said other contenders before he signs here.

Ridnour had a poor year last year with the Bucks. Is he done or could he come as a vet min backup PG? I know that may not be setting the sights very high but if luke was the guy he was during his time with the Wolves he would be a nice enough backup.

Most 2nd, 3rd, and 4th tier guys will wait to sign until the bigger dominoes fall. If a suitor for a bigger name strikes out suddenly they have a better situation available to them. The same reason you want urgency is the same reason they'll wait. There is plenty of money and opportunity out there for the desirable players.

I'd actually swing it the other way. There's always a feeding frenzy the first week after the moratorium period even over middling players. I'd rather Flip be patient wait for the dust to settle and try to pick up overlooked players in late July/August for a fraction (both years and price) of what they were expecting or what their player peers may have gotten.

You mention Nate Robinson, what I'm saying is a similar approach to how Denver nabbed him. Robinson coming off a good playoff run was expecting to cash in but the market wasn't as hot for him as he wanted. Denver scoops him up for only a few million. Same with Mo Williams who was signed in early August.

Compare that to Flip last offseason falling over himself to re-sign Budinger and sign Brewer as fast as he could. Sure you run the risk of winding up empty handed or whiffing on a signing but what's a handful of Budinger and Brewer worth. You whiff you've got a quicker turnover to get back to the free agent pool. Flip's handcuffed to Budinger and Brewer for another season or two.

Ok yeah we can't do anything with FAs now but its only like a week away.

Yep waiting is probably going to show some bargains later on. Its also going to depend on who they add in the draft to see what they add there.

I wish they could add a vet that can actually play. I know there isn't room for him on the roster but Richard Jefferson seems like a guy that's been around and has still been pretty productive. I wouldn't want to sign him for more than 2 years and you would think he would have better options but we will see. Also I wouldn't rule out some minor trade of one decent player (like JJ or Luc) for another decent player that may work out better. Luc actually seems like a guy Flip may get something out of though and he plays defense.
