Robbie Hummel

Post by Monster »

This article that was tweeted by Zgoda and the post by mrhockey about Bazz made me decide to throw a thread up about him.

To me the bottom line is if Hummel can be a relatively consistant 3 point threat he can have a solid NBA career. He clearly looked like a much better player last year in Vegas compared to the previous year so I am interested to see what he brings in Vegas this year. As a deep cheap bench guy I like him. I got the impression Flip liked him last summer. I am FAR from enamored with Hummel but I hope he sticks around. I like what I saw from him last year and I think he can improve. It would be nice to get even a decent NBA player from the 2nd round for once.

I still view Hummel as an end of bench guy. He can get streaky on his shooting and that's definitely his strength, but he doesn't really do a whole lot else. Probably worth seeing if he can develop into a rotational poor man's Fred Hoiberg, but I'd be a bit surprised to see him become more.

I think Hummel's days as a wolf are numbered especially if there is a Kevin Love trade. I'd be surprised if Hummel hung on passed summer league/training camp. Not counting Love the Wolves already have 11 players under contract and any Love trade will bring in more players than the Wolves send out between the combination of players and pick(s). Then there's the wolves 4 picks they already have they won't use them all but they'll certainly bring in a few players with higher upside than Robbie.

Like the guy and admire how he worked his way into the league. He's a shooting specialist who shot well at times but never great. I agree with hockey he doesn't bring much else (although I was surprised how hard hit hit the boards some games) so if you're not a great shooter than what's your value to a team?

Like I said if he can shoot he will have a place in this league. I do think he brings more than just shooting. He seems like the type of guy the Spurs would pick up now and he would play well. He isn't going to hurt. You out there at least has a clue on defense. I see him becoming a little more perimeter oriented version of Brian Cardinal which would be worthwhile. Just like Ellington he has to be able. to hit jumpers consistanly if he wants to be something more than random decent (won't hurt. You too much if he is out there) bench dude. Wayne should be able to shoot but still hasn't done it consistantly. It will be interesting to see what Hummel does in that regard and he has the pedigree based on what he did in college.

I disagree that Hummel has a clue on defense. I think Hummel is a pretty poor defender. I do think he's better than Ellington though, mostly because he doesn't think he's Kobe Bryant like Ellington does at times.
