Whats going to happen to the assistant coaches?
After Flip steps down from being the coach? Is he going to let the new guy pick his own staff? Would he fire his buddies for someone else? Is it a foregone conclusion that one of these assistants will be the next head coach?

He will let his new coach pick his staff. No coach will take this job without picking a staff. I don't think any of these guys are going to be the next coach. I think Glen and Taylor know who they want are and going to bridge to him using Flip.

Then the question is, why would any these assistants take these jobs in the first place? Why would they take a 1-2 year job only to be fired after?

Here is a pretty simple answer: they like and respect Flip. Yeah that sounds like a homer answer but nothing is a sure thing in this league and are any of these guys employed for a team right now? Nope. Lowe and Mitchell have Wolves ties so they probably would like to help this franchise also.

Lowe said HE called Flip as soon as he heard Flip was taking over HC duties. Mitchell's probably itching for a coaching gig so he can get back into basketball. Neither seemed like they had a whole lot of offers coming their way.

fun fact, Sidney Lowe is 79-228 as a head coach for a .257 winning %. He's apparently good with point guards for some reason as well

Ryan Saunders also added to Flips staff. Good news, Ryan is the fresh blood Wolves fans have been hoping for as he has never been with the Wolves organization before.
Ryan comes over from the Wizards after spending 4 years there. Where was he before that? Learning under the legendary Gopher coach Tubby Smith! Scoop this guy up before the Spurs hear about him huh?

This is huge. Flip will coach better knowing he won't come home to having his dead beat unemployed son living at home.

This really is disheartening.
o one was trying to hire Flip Saunders to be a head coach or GM last year. What does Glen Taylor do? He swoops in and puts Flip in the highest executive position in the Wolves basketball organization.
The League is filled with for NBA head coaches with terrific records (e.g., Hollins and Karl) along with a slew of assistant NBA coaches who on winning teams. What does Flip do? He appoints himself as our new head coach. Not the worst thing since Flip has been a very good head coach in the League, but no team was beating down his door to hire him for several years and now he'll have his attention divided between two huge jobs at a critical time for the franchise.
Who does Flip hire as his assistants? A guy with one of the worst winning percentages you'll ever see from a head coach. He hires Sam, who is more of a tough guy than a basketball mind. And he hires his son. Not that Sam and Ryan are necessarily bad. But disappointing.
Overall, the who thing strikes me as incredibly parochal and totally uninspiring.

With respect to Lowe the requirements to be a very good assistant coach and a very good head coach are very different. Lowe could well be a great assistant with a focus on point guards but not have the skills to be an in game manager.
As for Mitchell I would love to see him on the staff given they're likely beginning another rebuild. A guy with his feet firmly planted on the ground is good for a young team.
Finally, yeah, hiring your kid just plain blows.
