Is Love the player fron 4 months ago that could do no wrong on the floor, and trading him for anyone would be blasphemous. Or, is he the guy that now plays no defense, isnt a closer and is a terrible teammate?
I can understand the jadedness by the fans. But hes still the same player. Its crazy how fans opinions can turn on a dime.
Personally ,I say goodriddance to the guy leaving and Im okay rebuilding with High draft picks. (If thats the return ). I think doin a trade with Golden state would only keep this team slightly above average and already at its ceiling. High picks are the only way to hit thejackpot and find that player to build around for years to come.
Dont let the door hit ya on theway out fella. Ur a heck of a player and sadly u will be missed.
So which one is he?
Re: So which one is he?
He's always been both of those things. Of course we're going to focus on the positives and root for him when he's playing here. He was putting up stats that put Minnesota on the media map. That changes when he makes comments that obviously states he wants out of here so we then are going to focus on the negatives to easier digest the idea of losing him. In my opinion, him leaving is not even close to as hard as watching Garnett go. We've never seen success with Love that we had seen with Garnett, and Love had plenty more surrounding him than KG ever did. I agree on the GS trade completely. Let's go for a high pick in this draft and a potential high pick in future drafts.
Re: So which one is he?
I absolutly agree on the KG sentiment. He rose the play of everyone around him. I think Kgs teamates saw him leave everything on the floor on a nightly basis and inturn they expected the same of themselves. Even tho they struggled to make it out of the first I look at those rosters and wonder how they even sniffed .500 By all accounts KG was fiercely loyal to his teamates and organization.

EDIT: Great thread PorkChop
Some people seem to have bad memories or maybe they just weren't alive yet. I'd argue that Marbury and Googs were better than anybody that Love has played with and guess what the Wolves made the playoffs (yes it was with the same record the Wolves just finished with this year but they improved the next year) with those 3 and that was in KG's 2nd and 3rd year when he was good but before he had became the player he would ultimately become. Love is not the problem on this team. People are going to have a serious wakeup call if he leaves. Its gonna be sad but in some ways funny based on a bunch of message board posts I've read in this the KFAN board and comments after articles.

Re: So which one is he?
Love is everything you said in your post porkchop. A lot of us here would have look past his flaws and continue to support and want to keep him here because he is a great and unique talent.
The turning point is love turn on the team himself. Lets be frank, he may not outright say it, but reading between the lines and his evasiveness of the issue is pretty telling. He wants out. What do we do with a player who wants out and has his agent doing it and spreading it behind our back? In a perfect world, I would love to see us being a contender with love and rubio but it is what it is. Its time to part ways.

My view on Love is not hate, I am just resigned to the fact that he is done here. He played 6 seasons, under incompetent coaches, blown draft picks, and did his best, Now he wants a change. Who can blame him?

Re: So which one is he?
I get your point, porkchop, but I also see it as somewhat natural for a passionate fan to turn on a player once they feel that player cares less about the team than they do.
Actually, though, I think there has been a lot of balanced discussion here about Love throughout the year...some very positive, some not so much. I remember starting a thread back in January or so entitled "Anybody else tired of Love's shtick?". I teed up the thought that Love needed to shut up, that he wasn't a good teammate, and certainly not a leader. As I recall, it turned out to be a rather long thread. Some defended him because of his production (can't argue with that) and thought I was overreacting, but some others agreed that Love did not always have a positive impact on the team. I'm just pointing that out to show that the board hasn't done a complete 180 on Love.
Personally, my thoughts about Love are unchanged. I have always seen him as a remarkably productive offensive player who is also terribly immature, selfish and difficult to like. The way he has conducted himself in the last two weeks are exactly the way I would expect a person of substandard character like Love to act. I cheer for him the same way I cheered for Chuck Knoblauch (another whiny little bitch) when he was here...plugged my nose and appreciated the positive contributions. And Love's productivity makes me wish that he eventually chooses to stay here, despite my personal distaste for people like him. But on the other hand, his unattractive personality makes it easier for me to see him go...and he will be a fun booing target if he does go.

Remember Kobe called into a talk show and demanded a trade. Flip made a surprise appearance on Father's day for an emergency funkadelic. What he said there made me think there is a much better chance than we think that Love will be right back here on the team next season. Why? A couple comments from flip but seriously the whole spot again is worth listening too. I thought Flip made some very good and interesting points.
He mentioned that someone reminded him the other day that the summer before KG signed his landmark contract he had refused a 103 million contract and said it wasn't about the money. I do remember that very vaguely. Flip's point in bringing this up was in response to the idea that Love is gone and the damage is done he can't come back. Even before that I think its pretty laughable the idea Love can't come back after what has happened which really isn't that much.
Flip mentioned stars are rarely if ever traded before or during the draft. Maybe someone has an example the host mentioned trades after the draft, but not before it.
Flip also had some thoughts on frustration to follow up what he said a couple weeks ago and also on leadership.
LST Personally I like Love and I always have. I think he is engaging and funny and very smart when it comes to the game overall he is definitely a student of the game. I am not saying the guy is the nicest person on the planet or any stuff like that cause I don't know him or have much real inside info. When he is being himself he speaks his mind and part of me likes that and part of that gets him into some deep trouble. I can see reason why people get frustrated with him. I loath any players that whine for calls. Play the game. I know sometimes you get upset and you are going to argue a call. I've been a ref I know its hard and it sucks and they screw up and I usually don't complain, but even I get upset about calls sometimes. Love is pretty bad, but Duncan is pretty annoying too. The best player on our city league teams used to be awful in college and it still comes out, but damn is he a good player and he is a great guy off the court. I've been embarrassed that he is on my team a few times when he has gone off. LOL My point is I like Love as much as I can with the info I have and as much as I can a pro athlete. I'm just saying this as a counterpoint to what you said LST and you are right other people have been saying this for quite a while. Its not a complete 180" but some of the stuff being said about Love's actual game is ridiculous.

This is about where I am. This is not about how I feel about Love, it is about the notion that he wants out. Time to move on. I do not expect a wake up call to come however since I am already nervous about Flip nailing a good deal. Centering a deal around a pick that flops will set the team back even further. That said, Flip has to make a deal or the team will be set back anyway.
Re: So which one is he?
I agree wholeheartedly Monster. While Love comes off as a dick I find his honesty refreshing. He is who he is. Ill never be friends with the guy so it doesnt matter what kind of personality he has. Does he make the team I root for better is all I care about. Alot of the alltime greats in sports were reported to be A-holes. Maybe thats part of what makes certain athletes great. I do know some of the most successful people I know personally are no prize to be around most of the time. People like that dont take into consideration other peoples feelings. They are driven by emotions that the "Minnesota nice" complex will never understand. Myself included.
