I've never thought one time that the No. 1 pick was off the table, so that's why my vote is for draft pick. No. 1 pick, Waiters and Thompson is the same package they offered last year, according to multiple reports. I see that offer still being available on draft night or the night before the draft. That's the one I hope Flip is waiting on. I believe we're still able to compete now and have a good future with that package.

There's also the situation where the No. 1 pick gets us a proven player AND a high draft pick. I'm beating a dead horse with this one, but No. 1 to Philly for Thad Young and No. 3 seems very realistic and I'd go for it. Rumor is Philly makes this move to ensure they get Wiggins. Chad Ford, who I'm not the highest on, reports that Embiid is No. 1 on Milwaukee's board. We'd have Parker fall in our lap, basically.

So if you get the Cleveland package, which I believe we could, we're competitive with proven players and still have youth and potential to go with it. Rubio/Waiters/Parker/Young/Pekovic, MLE/Harris or Martin/Brewer/Thompson/Dieng

The notion of proven players is telling. The only players we are going to get are ones who have proven to not be as good as Love. Get as many picks as possible and put pressure on the front office to turn them into something. Like I said in another thread, a rebuild doesn't have to take 5 years if you get a bunch of picks to go with Ricky, Dieng and Pek. Sure, you need to find a couple stars with the picks, but that's life as a GM in this league.

Like Q, I'd prefer a blend of both. As for proven players, it depends on how good they are and how well they'd fit with Ricky and Pek. The only deal I really like would be the Cavs'#1 along with Thompson and Waiters (maybe Varejao). Otherwise, I'd be ok with Klay Thompson, Barnes, Lee and a future first rounder from Golden State. I don't like any of the other rumored offers.

How did OKC get to where they are now?
They traded their star (Ray Allen) and bottomed out for a few years and hit on their draft picks. Realistically they only made two excellent picks (Westbrook and Ibaka) with Durant falling in their lap, I think we've already made one in Dieng.
I don't want to battle for the eight spot every year. I want to contend.
