Flip's Agenda - #1. New Coach

Post by 60WinTim »

We were told exit interviews were on tap for today and tomorrow. One of them is for Adelman. All indiciators point to one of the two, if not both, deciding it's time Rick retires. We should know in the next couple days. Which makes finding a new coach Flip's top priority.

How long will the search take?

It may have been unavoidable, but one of Kahn's first mistakes was to put off hiring a coach until after the draft. Flip will get an earlier start than Kahn, so he should have no problem hiring someone before the draft.

Doogie had this speculation this morning:

Darren Wolfson ?@DarrenWolfson 1h
One #Twolves coaching scenario I wouldn't rule out: Flip in charge w/ a head-coach-in-waiting by his side. Not sure who that'd be.

No. No. No. No. No. No. No Flip. No.

I want Hollins. He will teach defense. He made Gasol and Randolph a big success and can do that with Love and Pek. My only concern is how he meshes with Ricky. Flip would need to investigate Hollins philosophy on Ricky but he did really well with Conley, who he believed strongly in. Depends how he views Ricky, I guess, but he will be the first guy I would call.

I'd take Hollins a VanGundy or Hoiberg. Please, no Flipper or hiring from within.

I don't see those guys taking the job with love's potential departure cloud hanging over

Could we get both Van Gundys? Kind of like a coaching tag team?

No way would I want Flip as the coach either. I couldn't take that much arrogance. Would have to jump on the Popovich bandwagon.

Flip wouldn't be my first choice, but I wouldn't have a big problem with him. I think the Wolves would have won 50 games this year with him coaching, just because he would have been more engaged and played the rookies more (and perhaps JJ less, although I don't know about that).

Flip wouldn't be my first choice but he couldn't do any worse than Adelman and at least our coach and GM would be on the same page.

That's exactly why I see them as a possibility. Their ego's would expect them to turn things around and make Love want to stay in Minny. I am not sure they want to come to Minny though. I think the most likely is Hollins, and the least likely is JVG.
