But at the same time, a new candidate has emerged. And nobody should be surprised. I mean, we are talking "the country club" here, right?!? (it's Wojo talking about Sam Mitchell)
I may be the only one on this board who would be happy about a Sam Mitchell hire. He has always been one of my favorite NBA characters, and always been the kind of guy who commands the respect of everyone. The Toronto team he coached didn't have nearly the talent the Wolves have, and yet he turned them around and coached them to a 47-35 record in 2006-7, winning NBA Coach of the Year honors. He has always been a hard-nosed overachiever, both as a player and as a coach, and would demand defensive excellence. I'm glad to see him on the list of candidates.
Sam not really doing a whole lot since he got fired concerns me and yet I also think he might be a decent hire. I've always liked Sam as a player and I think he might be a good fit as a fiery type guy and might be open to having the right mix of assistants. I think its clear you hope he learned something from the Toronto gig because it didn't end well, but I have no idea if he has. Ultimately I would hope we can do better. It does sound like Flip has actually been working pretty hard on this he just has kept it under the radar becasue thats how he would like it if he was being interviewed.
I like the Horford idea. I wonder if now would be a perfect time to offer up Love for Griffin. I think Love is the better player, but Griffin is locked up for several more seasons, and Love would be a great fit with CP and Jordan.
