Re: Flip's Agenda - #1. New Coach
Think we're trying to be smart and call Memphis' bluff. Instead of just sending a 2nd rounder and getting the transaction over with, we're betting on Memphis just firing Joerger so we can have him without giving the Grizzlies compensation.
Real dumb gamble. Better hope for us it works in our favor.
... Does anything go smoothly for the Wolves ever? :undecided:

Given the Wolves needs do you give up the 13th pick in exchange for the 22nd plus a 2nd rounder to get Joerger? I would bet most people who're upset right now would be going through the roof, swearing off their Wolves loyalty and calling Flip and Taylor every name in the book if they'd agreed to that deal.
While I'd agree nothing ever seems to go the Wolves way with the lottery being the prime example, I still think it would be absurd to pay such a price for a coach Memphis clearly didn't want anyways.

Re: Flip's Agenda - #1. New Coach
More outlets are reporting they never even began compensation talks. So I don't believe that first round swap scenario.
I think Para just had a change if heart after the media/fans were so one sided in their voice "WTF is going on in Memphis?" & "Memphis' loss is Minnesota's gain."
The clear winner is Joerger's & Mitchell's agent. Dave got his deal sweetened and Mitchell is a leading candidate for the Wolves gig.
Shades of the Wolves getting played like a fiddle to get Batum his contract. Agents love playing the Wolves.

uh Oh
Dave Joerger has told the Memphis Grizzlies that he will stay with the team as head coach.
The Grizzlies and Minnesota Timberwolves have hit an impasse over compensation after discussing during the weekend.
The Timberwolves reportedly do not want to pay compensation for a coach who could be let go without a deal.
Joerger has met with both Flip Saunders and Glen Taylor about the Timberwolves' head coaching vacancy. - Marc Stein
Im hoping this doesnt blow up in the Wolves face. Hopefully Joerger and the Wolves are conspiring to get him fired. I think they should just pay the 2nd rounder and be done with it.

I don't doubt that it is possible Joerger played the wolves, but batum signed a deal with the wolves so he hardly played anyone.

Re: Flip's Agenda - #1. New Coach
Batum's agent used the wolves to get the offer he wouldn't get straight from the blazers. Wolves waived bird rights, amnestied a player, traded a player, traded a pick and wasted a week of free agency to get room for Batum offer sheet. All for not.
Re: Flip's Agenda - #1. New Coach
The wolves were played period. We were made to look like fools here.
Say what you want about memphis but they did the right thing and retain joerger. Yes, they probably intender for joerger to leave thats why they allow the interview in the first place but they were hit with backlash and the wolves were taking their time on this and ultimately memphis back out.
All we had to do were speed up the process, offer 1 of the 3 2nd round picks that im sure we are going to end up selling anyway or draft a player that will never play for us and get it done quickly. instead we move along slowly, taking a passive aggressive approach instead of being aggressive and get it done quickly and move on to other things. Now we lost him just as we were ready to commit to him. Typical wolves, losing a close one at the buzzer. Sigh

Not true at all. The wolves didn't have to trade Wes and the pick to make the offer. They did that to open enough space for all the signings. That is why they tried a S&T. Hard to say Batum's agent used the wolves when he signed a deal with them.

It is also possible that Memphis made some calls to replace him, and were being rebuffed by other coaches due to the volatility in their FO. I just think it was foolish not negotiate the compensation before hand.
