The Lakers haven't signed anyone significant since Shaq. They've consistently traded for their secondary stars so it makes sense that they have struck out because they don't usually sign people anyway and they don't have many good trade assets that would get a blockbuster done without leaving the supporting cast depleted.

khans, correct me if I'm wrong as maybe it was a trade that I forgot about...but wasn't Lamar Odom a free agent signing? And Ron Artest? Either of those I'd consider key gets.

Ofom was in the Shaq trade and when the Lakers got Artest Ibdont think he was really at key guy level. I think the Gasol trade was pretty close to a FA level type deal because it was all about money and fortunately it worked out for the Grizz in the end with Marc.

It's almost a bad deal the Lakers had to give up anything in that trade for a guy that might be a one year rental.

Ok so the Pacers bigs are a rookie and a couple journeyman? I like Lavoy Allen but I would hope they get more than that.

This would seem to be a move of desperation. The Knicks and Lakers would be better served to demonstrate a little patience for once. I don't think you can become a contender taking on everyone else's overpriced has-beens. They are effectively capping their short and intermediate term potential.

I read Love could be traded before a year is up. Still a chance he ends up in LA. I don't know what the Lakers would have to send back

I'm good with seeing the Lakers rot at the bottom for as long as possible

They traded for more cap room next off season. Hibbert and Kobe will both come off the books best year for 40mil + whatever the new cap increase gives them. They can potentially sign 3 big names next year. At least they hope they will.

I like the Hilbert move. They punt the cap space to the future since it is a one year deal. At this point they should just try avoid committing money to anyone longterm. If Flip is trying to find a trade partner for AB they might be a good option.

I also like the Hibbert move for them. It improves their defense and they needed a defensive big to pair with Randle. They don't need the cap space for anybody this year. It doesn't make them a playoff team, but it allows them to be competitive in Kobe's last year with the squad. They want to attract free agents and them tanking doesn't help them attract anybody next year.

Knicks on the other hand went out and signed a bunch of long-term contracts with players that are not game changers. The Lakers future looks much better. That will really be some egg on Jackson's face in the future.
