Jones is a nice player. If we are going by former wolves as comparisons, I would have terrell brandon as his ceiling. Luke ridnour in between and the floor would be a better shooting telfair. I would say he is going to be better than luke but not as good as tb was.

Backups are valuable and I read that Flip even called him one. I think too often fans want to see their team built in a neat little package with exact minute distribution but it rarely works that way.

Well, I'm an analytics guy, but this is where the eye test and physical profile stuff comes in handy as a counter-balance. Jones does not have good size, quickness, or strength for his position, which means he needs to be incredibly skilled to become an above average backup PG/average starting PG. It seems like a stretch to me.

I do like the fact he has a natural PG instinct.

Jones will be to Basketball in MN as Mauer was to Baseball.

Boy, I don't see the two as comparable at all, but perhaps there is something more to your statement than I can interpret on my own!

We have to remember Jones is not even close to being a lottery pick. At #24 he's just another late first round pick with strengths and weaknesses. Personally I really like him and can't wait to see how he does this year. But if he doesn't excel in the NBA, it's not the worst thing that could happen too us.

One thing that stuck out to me that I really like was during one of the interviews of Tyus. The question was along the lines of a childhood dream coming true yada yada yada who did you picture yourself as taking the last shot for the T'wolves "KG, Spreewell?, Marbury"

His response was Cassell. I really liked that because I think that he has similar attributes, good shooter, not afraid of the big moments, not going to beat you with his physical attributes but with his great feel for the game can run the point and get buckets when he needs to. Also a liability somewhat on defense but hey nobody's perfect and it was the 24th pick for crying out loud.

Well played Saunders. The fans will give you more time to "develop" these youngsters.

That rhetoric is so overused and tiresome... Did people ever think maybe Flip just wants to build the best team possible and put said team in the best spot to be successful. Why does it always have to be some secret agenda or ploy..

Both are from MN so they have major homer-ism going on. Mauer actually lived up to it for a few years. I think Jones will have a much harder shot at it.

Yep, guys picked at #24 aren't expected to be stars. Here's a list of players the Wolves have picked after #20 in the first round.

Andre Roberson
Lazar Hayward
Wayne Ellington
Ndudi Ebi
Paul Grant (I watched this clumsy oaf's workout...still cant believe we drafted him!)
Gerald Glass

Only Ellington has carved out a respectable NBA career, although nothing special. Roberson started for OkC last year, but only averaged 3 PPG.

Some may say that this is an indictment of the Wolves' drafting, and that argument can certainly be made. But I also think you could find similar results with other team, and my point is still valid...not much is expected of late first rounders.

My expectations for Jones are much higher. He just seems like a winner to me.
