Patience for Flip and Wolves fans...

Post by kurrdog53 [enjin:7013678] »

I, like everyone else, cannot wait to see how this team shakes out with the draft and the Kevin Love debacle. HOWEVER, I gotta believe that the reason nothing has happened yet is that Flip has to wait and see how the LeBron/Carmelo/Wade/Bosh stories unfold. Remember when LeBron first took his talents to South Beach and we got a young Beasley for 2 second rounders? IF, and only IF, LeBron goes somewhere other than Miami, there might be teams that have to jettison their rosters to obtain him. There is a small domino effect than can occur at that point with players ending up on other teams. Flip might be waiting to become a 3rd party trade option with one of those teams and get the players he wants, but in a deal that no one expected. Patience will be key until the other premadonnas fall into place. Thoughts?

Kurrdog -- Good point. I suspect that is exactly what Flip is thinking. I just disagree. The only player more valuable than Love is LeBron and only a very small number of teams consider themselves in the running for him. Our max leverage is now through draft night. After that, the only teams competing for Love will be those with who might offer players, no longer including all who would be offering picks. In my view, waiting is a bad strategy. That's probably why Golden State is holding out. They're capitalizing on Flip's naive approach, knowing that he'll have far less leverage after the draft.

This is why having free agency after the draft is beyond stupid. The draft should probably be moved to early/mid July with free agency mid/late June.

On realgm I see that Golden State would be interested in taking Parsons and Lin in exchange for their TPE so Houston can get the cap room. Sounds like a contingency plan after a Love trade.

Interesting. Not sure how that lets them make a run at Lebron like Chad Ford mentioned. And here I had the craaaaazy idea of GS including Iggy in the Love trade in order to free up space to go after Lebron.

The original post makes a really great point and there are already 2 deals that could give an indication of things to come. Its almost funny that all the Rockets got after all the deals that were kicked around for Asik is cap space. I get why they did it but yeah.

The Wolves have some guys with contracts that could be used to facilitate a deal and that could bring a good or decent worthwhile player to the wolves.

That's a bad deal for New Orleans. Taking on a bad contract that Houston wanted to jettison and giving up a pick that could easily be a top 5 or top 10 pick. Question: Pelicans traded their 2014 pick for Jrue Holiday, how can they trade the 2015 pick too--isn't that against the rules?

This deal will be completed in July.
