Is the KLove situation repairable?

Post by maelstrom11 [enjin:6599701] »

Post draft and we still have KLove on the roster. Every interview I hear with Flip I hear that there's a chance KLove is on the roster opening day. Is there any way we can salvage the KLove situation and make him resign..... Here's a couple thoughts.

1 Start next season on a huge winning streak .. By the trade deadline maybe we are 35-15 or so. Finish the season 55-27. Make a run to the WCF.

2 Trade for a player KLove Loves and feels he can build with. Maybe a deal like Rubio/PEK/Lavine for Russell Westbrook. OKC has got to have some doubts about if Durant and Westbrook can get it done playing together.

Other than these two which are both long shots I don't see anyway to salvage the KLove situation.

Heres a third....
KLove and Flip are both in on a con stunt right know to psychologically get the rest of the team thinking oh shit I better get in the gym this offseason and improve because if I don't KLove (and the twolves immediate future) will be gone. This is brilliant. Is there any better way to get Ricky motivated to fix his jump shot? KLove and Flip are brilliant.......

I have been clinging to a 10-20% hope that Kevin can grow up, the team can improve, and he eventually stays. But recently I gave up that hope. I'm hearing too many people (Mike Max, Doogie, etc) who are around the players all the time talk about how much Love is disliked by his teammates. Flip is saying what he has to say, but he has to know this too, and he has to know that is a bad situation. Between Love's ego and petulance, and the collective dislike of his teammates, I'm convinced this shop has sailed. Now we just have to hope that we get something in return that allows us to compete.

As I hear these reports about the dislike for Love, I'm starting to think locker room dissention was a bigger factor than I originally thought in last year's underachieving. It has to be a positive when Love is eventually booted out of here. Production can be replaced...heck, David Lee replaces 75% of Love's production just by himself...but it's difficult for an unhappy team to reach its potential.

I highly recommend the podcast that Tim attached in a different thread where Doogie and some other guy analyze the draft and Love. Doogie talks about how much Flip wants the ultimate revenge...making the playoffs after Love leaves. And although he doesn't say it, the players have to feel this way too. It's the ultimate "F you" to the superstar who couldn't get them to the playoffs. So, I expect this team to play much harder next year, and this is really good news. The talent differential just isn't that significant in major league sports, and often the team that plays harder wins the game. That's how you get situations like Phoenix last year, where the record doesn't seem to jive with the level of talent.

It still hurts to lose a player like Love, but I think I am going to like the personality of this team much more next year.

All that for an injury prone guard. Now we have two self centered aholes on the team Perfect. Pass
Ship Love out. I am pissed he is still here.

The only reason I want Love to stay next year is to hear the home crowd rain down boos on him every game. I agree with Papal, I'm pissed he's still here too.

I was thinking it would be fun to see Love outlet to LaVine.

Was just thinking about other possible deals and light clicked that Lakers/Celtics/Wolves could get one together as follows.

rondo and scraps to lakers

love and scraps to celtics

Gasol/Randle/Olynk/Green/Bradley Scraps to wolves

You guys are right. The Love situation is unrepairable even thou I'm having a hard time accepting it. It really pisses me off he won't give it 1 more shot to work.

Pretty sure the idea of Love going to Boston would be to team up with Rondo. Not go there to be by himself. That doesn't make any sense to go start over with a rookie.

Also, we don't know if he won't give it another shot. He's still a Timberwolf for 2014 according to his contract, unless he gets dealt. He just wants to win, and he does want national attention. Thing is, if Minnesota is a top-six seed this year, everyone is going to know about it. 10 years without playoffs. It'll be a story and Love's name would headline it. Just win, baby, win.

I agree. Do I think it will be repaired? The chances are pretty damn slim, but if they win 55 games this year I could see him being convinced to pick up his option. He might think it's worth it to see what Flip can do with one more year. Plus, then his contract would expire at the same time as Durant's, and they could go team up in LA after Kobe's deal is over.
